Canton Central Catholic will provide the opposition for the Dover tornadoes on Friday night at Crater Stadium. Dover stands 1-1 after last week’s thrilling 38-35 victory at Avon Lake, while Canton Central Catholic has gotten off to an 0-2 start this season. “Our boys just kept fighting last week and it paid off,” said Dover coach Dan Ifft. Senior quarterback Corey Lisowski had a big night despite getting a strong rush from the Avon Lake defense. He completed 24 of 36 passes for 363 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. “Corey was phenomenal,” noted Ifft. “It was a very courageous performance because he got hit so much.” Cory Matlick was the top receiver as he hauled in seven passes for 185 yards. Canton Central Catholic is a young squad in 2008 after seeing many players graduate from last season’s playoff team. The Crusaders defeated Dover 35-14 a year ago. Sophomore Kyle Dureska runs the Crusaders’ option attack while senior Marc Davide is the top running threat. While Central Catholic has yet to win this year, being outscored by a combined 56-7, Ifft isn’t taking Coach Lowell Klinefelter’s team lightly. “No. 1, we haven’t done anything yet, and No. 2, we have a lot of respect for them. FRANKLIN, La. — Now that Hurricane Gustav has blown through and left many waist-deep in floodwaters, folks in southern Louisiana just got a new problem: tornadoes. Within the past hour, the National Weather Service has issued tornado warnings and watches for some of the hardest-hit areas: Houma, Morgan City and other areas outside New Orleans. “People are advised to seek shelter immediately,” warned an official radio announcement just a few minutes ago. And in Covington, on the north shore of Lake Ponchitrain north of New Orleans, officials have just ordered a mandatory evacuation of all low-lying areas because of flooding from continuing rains. Same flooding problems are occurring near New Iberia, south of Lafayette, where torrential rains continued earlier this afternoon. Officials there reported water was rising quickly in several areas.
