As long as the Rangers are trying every trick in the book to motivate, overhaul and improve their starting pitching, why not add one more to the mix: Cold, hard (currently devalued) cash? The Rangers have not a had a pitcher reach 200 innings in either of the last two seasons. That innnings threshold is, by far, the single-most important gauge on whether a pitcher was successful in Arlington. In the last five years, the Rangers have had a pitcher reach 200 innings four times. All four had winning records and at least 14 wins. Since 1998, it's happened 13 times. Twelve of the 13 had winning records and all won at least 12 games (John Thomson, 13-14 in 2003, was the loine exception). In the last 10 years, the average number of wins for a Ranger who reached the 200-inning threshold was 15.4. ...
