*Woman's temper heats up over tacos* By ANA X. CERON, Palm Beach Post Staff Writer JENSEN BEACH A woman is accused of causing a disturbance while intoxicated when she reportedly drove up to a Taco Bell drive-through window and demanded tacos even though the restaurant had closed. The restaurant reported the disturbance shortly before 2:30 this morning, when Sabrina Settles pulled up to the drive-through and began yelling, an employee told Martin County Sheriff's deputies. The worker said she opened up the window and told Settles that the Taco Bell closed at 2, but Settles continued to yell, according to a sheriff's report. The employee then called 911. The deputy who responded to the call reported hearing Settles, 33, yelling at the window as she sat in the driver's seat of a silver Jeep that had one its tires blown out. Settles told the deputy that she wanted her tacos. When the deputy asked how Settles got the flat tire, she said she didn't have a flat, the report states. Settles slurred as she talked and her breath smelled of alcohol, the deputy said. Settles was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly intoxication. She was held in the Martin County jail on $250 bail. ... Source: www.ocregister.com --- 18 days ago

PDC is increasingly taking up my time, so I've got LA on the brain. Having lived in LA for 39 years before joining the firm, I use PDC as an opportunity to visit my favorite haunts. My first stop will be Tito's tacos . Every time I go to LA (PDC or not), I go straight from LAX to Tito's. For the PDC trips, I take as many people from my flight as possible. My recommendation is some combination of tacos (with cheese) and Tostadas. Skip the burritos - way too much food and you don't get that magical super-fresh lettuce/cheese combo happening. ... This recipe -- Salmon tacos With Roasted Corn and Chili Adobo Cream -- is good enough for company, with an easy and flavorful sauce you'll use with other summer meals. It's from a slim new cookbook with interesting information about goat cheese, its main topic. The author raises her own goats (and a regular barnyard menagerie) in rural San Mateo County, Calif. Not everyone has buttermilk on hand; this recipe calls for ½ cup. A pourable Mexican crema (from the refrigerated case) may be substituted. You may have a little of the cream left over. If you have the time and prefer less cleanup, you can do just about all the cooking over direct heat on the grill: Wrap the corn, onion and red bell pepper mixture in an aluminum-foil packet; grill the salmon fillet and warm the tortillas for a minute or two on the grill grate just before serving. (Some cooking times may vary.) Salmon tacos With Roasted Corn and Chili Adobo Cream ... Source: irvineretail.freedomblogging.com --- 12 days ago

It’s far too easy to exaggerate the risks that new restaurants face. I’m as guilty as anyone. A few years ago in this column, in a bit of an overheat, I wrote that restaurants have a failure rate that would make deep-sea fishermen blanch. Sorry, fishermen. What does that have to do with Tower tacos , a new Cherokee Street Mexican restaurant? Check back here tomorrow to find out. - Ian Froeb ... Source: www.tdn.com --- 5 days ago

Watermelon salsa. Sounds different, right? But not in a bad way–more like really interesting. I certainly thought so when I first heard of it , and while the watermelons were abundant around here, I knew I had to try it. So closely following Susan’s very tempting recipe, I made some Carne Asada tacos with Watermelon Mango Avocado Salsa. And how did it come out? Quite surprising–I’d never had watermelon in any form other than dessert, so I was really curious to see where it would go. The end result didn’t quite have the tex-mex sort of flavors I was expecting, but it was nonetheless quite enjoyable. The peppers give the salsa a bit of heat, the avocado some creaminess and richness, the jicama a tartness and a firm crunch, while the watermelon played the curious role of…refreshment. Sort of like having a salsa with really juicy tomatoes…but not. It was definitely a good one–the only downside is that if you have extra, it Read the rest of this entry » ...
