The Brazilian soccer confederation confirmed Monday that Brazil will face Sweden in a friendly at Emirates Stadium in London on March 26. The match will mark the 50th anniversary of the World Cup final between the two countries, the Swedish football Association announced last month. The match will be played at the 60,000-capacity Emirates Stadium instead of Stockholm's Rasunda Stadium, where the 17-year-old Pele scored two goals to lead Brazil 5-2 victory in 1958. ... Referees often find themselves in the wars, having to put up with verbal abuse from players and fans alike, but the official taking charge of Chelsea’s quarter-final decider against Fenerbahce tonight can lay claim to seeing the ugly side of football up close and personal. His name is Herbert Fandel, from Germany, and if the name sounds familiar it’s because he was the official in charge of the infamous Euro 2008 qualifying clash between Denmark and Sweden in Copenhagen. The game had everything – six goals, a punch, a red card and an attack on the referee himself. Read more... ... Source: news.smh.com.au --- 44 days ago

I enjoyed watching the football practice portion and the drills they did. I watched the inside line backers the most. I was the most impressed with Matt Bauman and Doman in terms of having good feet. Dan Van Sweden also looked to have pretty good feet. I also watched the outside linebackers, Vic So’oto looked really strong. He had all his reps on the first team on the 11 on 11’s. I also thought Grant Nelson looked really good. He had nice feet and good closing speed. The other thing that stood out to me was Jason Munn’s size. He towered above everybody. J.J. Duligi- He is this year’s Brenden Gaskins. He definitely was the one everyone was talking about at the scrimmage. He is not going to be the “change of pace” and get to the edges back that we all hoped he would, but looks to have a very promising career. He is a very elusive runner and very mature (i.e. patience, vision etc.) for a young runner. It will be interesting to see what happens with him with PT, because as was mentioned Fui is looking better. I was impressed when he caught the ball and made the would be tackler, who had great position, completely whiff and took the ball another 15 yards. Spencer Hofoka- He showed great speed and made one really impressive catch. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him as the first guy in after Reed and Collie. He was another one that stood out to the other fans. Kaneakua Friel- This kid will follow in the great tigh ... Source: www.thelocal.se --- 126 days ago
