Zoho already had a powerful online office suite in Writer, Sheet and Show. Now it binds them around a virtual file system, making it easy to upload your word-processing, powerpoint and spreadsheet docs to the cloud and edit them anywhere. It looks a lot like Google Docs now, but with a little digging you'll find more useful features. ...

Zoho is launching Zoho Docs, an SAAS messaging and collaboration application enterprises can use as a data storage tool to store files created in Zoho Writer, Zoho Sheets and Zoho Show. The Web service is a differentiator from Google Apps, which does not have a similar file management app. - You know you're getting bigger as a productivity software maker when you have to create applications to support the work your users are doing with your existing productivity apps. Zoho, which notched its 1 millionth customer a month ago in August, has launched an SAAS (software as a service) ... ... Source: www.downloadsquad.com --- 33 days ago
Filed under: Business , Internet , Office , Web services As usual, TechCrunch makes a good point about Zoho calling their offerings " still a bit all over the place ." But the fact that Zoho now has over one million users and just launched Zoho Docs bodes well for the company (and the still-nascent online business suite business at large). Zoho Docs integrates Writer, Sheet and Show, allows some version controls, more organization features and access control lists. That's a powerful set of glue tying some already-useful apps together. Now we'll have to see if they continue to grow beyond their core users and make real traction in the business space. With Office Live Workspace and Google Docs + Chrome powerhouses coming on strong in Q4, it'll be one heck of a battle. Previous coverage of Zoho: The launch of Zoho DB . Zoho's iPhone-tuned set of pages (we'll give them a full review soon). Zoho did DocX before some others, and it works well. Did you know you can export PPT, PDF, ODP files and send to Picasa and Flickr ? It was only a week or so ago that they released Zoho Share , which allows you to embed docs on a page. And here's how you can log in to Zoho with your Google Apps account. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments ... Source: venturebeat.com --- 33 days ago
Zoho continues to roll out its ever growing lineup of inexpensive (indeed, mostly free) online office software. Today’s addition is Zoho Docs, an application that allows you to access the text documents, spreadsheets and presentations created in Zoho Writer, Sheet and Show, respectively, through a single application. To be honest, my first thought on hearing the [...] ...

In one of the more interesting reviews of Google's open source Chrome browser, released yesterday, AP technology Writer Peter Svensson suggests that Google missed the boat by focusing on JavaScript performance in the browser, and submits that the real culprit behind much pokey web performance and many browser crashes is Adobe's Flash. Notably, Svensson's diatribe against Flash coincided with some interesting comments sent to us at OStatic from AdventNet/Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu. Vembu sees Chrome's focus on JavaScript as right on, to the point where it may begin to stifle Flash. Here's the gist of all this. Peter Svensson's review of Chrome includes this: "At work, I often have 40 or 50 tabs open in Firefox, grouped in different windows depending on which topic they pertain to. Frequently, Firefox would slow down all the other applications on my computer, then seize up completely." At first I thought JavaScript was to blame, and blocked it from running. But that made many sites unusable, and it didn't help: The browser still froze." "It turns out the culprit is not JavaScript but another technology used to make Web pages more interactive: Adobe Systems Inc.'s Flash plug-in. It's the program-within-a-program that plays YouTube videos and those annoying "splash" pages that some sites employ to dazzle you with animations. Flash is a tremendous resource hog in Firefox, eating up processor time to the point where there is nothing left fo ...

Of course, I cannot talk about the Future of Documents in the cloud without mentioning GoogleDocs , which let you edit, manage, mash-up and track your documents online. I could talk about it for hours, but I'm sure my readers know it quite well already. Probably not as widely known , but maybeeven more powerful is Zoho Docs . Zoho Docs brings together Zoho Writer , Zoho Sheet , and Zoho show , into a comprehensive, single interface available to manage, edit and share all your documents online. You can create your own login or use your Yahoo or Google login. But where it gets more interesting is the fact that your documents can be versioned, shared, updated in real time. They can be labelled but also tagged - the document becomes "social". Even more importantly, elements of a document can be included between applications. For example, you can copy a Zoho sheet into a Zoho presentation, and if the original sheet is updated, the corresponding slide will be updated. The document is moving away from that atomic container of information, really becoming this "evergreen" mash-up of document bits coming from various sources. But of course you can still import or export in more traditional formats. Anecdotically, I found amusing that the latest version of Zoho Writer actually comes back to a page metaphor which is strongly inspired by paper. In the new version, it is possible to insert header/footers or get a "page view" which was requested by ... Source: www.rfid-weblog.com --- 26 days ago
You need a Tikitag? The unusual name must have aroused your curiosity till now. Tikitag (weird but certainly a cute name) implements RFID technology to create a connection between offline devices and the online world. You can place these tags with information on certain products such as business cards or toys and use Tikitag readers for reading the information and offering additional information related to it. You could even use your NFC phones for buying movie tickets or fast food using Tikitag . Looks like a clean idea but one major obstacle is the lack of phones supporting it would make it tough for it to march ahead. Did I mention you will need a USB device to make it work? Let see how far this concept goes because ideas like these have been floating around for quite some time. The Tikitag service will be launched in the month of October carrying a price tag of $49.95. Watch this video below which explains the working of Tikitag See full article .
