That's right! It is finally Friday! I must admit that this week in particular was rather dreary...somewhat dreadful, but by this afternoon, some bright spots started to appear. Good news on the horizon, so to speak. So, after everything that has gone on this past month and a half, things could finally be looking up. Good, because Serena is a bit tired. Fundraising efforts are now being made to help the “Vote Yes” for the Memorial Auditorium renovation get off the ground. Wellington Recreation Center Director, William Weber said letters were sent to numerous homes and businesses as the steering committee for the Vote Yes campaign move closer to a November election. In the letter, the committee is asking for “monetary donations or business services to secure funds to finance the promotion of this referendum.” Monetary donations, it said, will go for administrative supplies and campaigning efforts that would include postage, brochures, advertising and other promotional activities. Weber said the letters were sent out early last week and with that initial advertising of the campaign, the monetary funds to continue with the Vote Yes initiative are null. “We’re down to zero,” said Weber. “We had some donations that were used to mail all that out and pay for the postage and envelopes and paper but an individual company — a local business here in town — donated the envelopes and postage.” Weber said public money can’t be used to run a campaign and it’s critical the Vote Yes initiative get off the ground with donations. “That’s why we’re soliciting for money in the community — to get monies to pay for that,” said Weber. The director said he hopes the committee can raise a minimum of $1,500 to $2,000 for a barebones campaign — otherwise, the committee will ...
