New York Magazine's fall fashion issue hits stands today (yay!), and we've got behind-the-scenes footage of the photo shoot showcasing some of the season's best eveningwear. Fashion director Harriet Mays Powell explains the concept was to dress a woman in evening gowns and her lover in similarly old-fashioned three-piece suits with iconic New York settings as a backdrop. So they hit Coney Island, stopped by Nathan's, walked on a sea of more than 30 Yellow Cabs, and took on Times Square at five in the morning. In $8,000 outfits. Love . The assets of Yellow Cab in Bowling Green are scheduled for sale on Tuesday. Sale of the cars and licenses could indicate service will resume in the south-central Kentucky city, which has been without taxi service since the company shut down suddenly on July 26. Joe Boyd is the primary owner of Royal Coach Enterprises, which operated Yellow Cab. Boyd told The Daily News of Bowling Green that another week of business would have put the company $25,000 to $30,000 deeper in debt. Boyd said high fuel prices, rising insurance rates and lower payments to transport Medicaid patients made it impossible for his company to continue operating. Citizens First Bank CEO Mary Cohon said at least eight firms have asked about Tuesday's sale, which will auction licenses to operate 50 Cabs in Bowling Green and its suburbs and to run intrastate buses. ... There continues to be a problem with so-called gypsy Cabs. By ANGELA CARBONE acarbone@repub.com WEST SPRINGFIELD - The License Commission called in a Springfield cab company owner on Tuesday to speak about possible violations of unlicensed taxis operating in the city. Fara Bahrehmand, co-owner of Yellow Cab, said his company has rules about which Cabs are allowed in West Springfield. There are signs up explaining the policies, he said. "If we find out who is doing it, they get punished," he said. The issue is that Yellow Cab, whose headquarters is in Springfield, has a fleet of 41 Cabs, but only six are registered to operate in West Springfield. The cab company leases the Cabs to drivers, Bahrehmand said. Two members of the License Commission independently have observed Yellow Cabs that are not authorized to operate in the city either cruising shopping center parking lots for fares or dropping off customers. Acting Commission Chairwoman Gail D. Mulcahy said she saw an unauthorized Yellow Cab exiting Interstate 91 without a passenger and entering the Riverdale Shops to pick someone up. "They way they waved, it looked like they had called and a cab had been dispatched to pick them up," Mulcahy said. In another instance, a Yellow Cab, parked in a handicapped parking space in the Big Y parking lot, was spotted by License Commission Chairman Paul M. Maleck, Mulcahy said. Maleck was not present at the meeting. Bahrehmand said the two drivers ...

From the August issue: Unlike their colleagues in the suburbs, New York City brokers can't place signs around the neighborhood pointing to an open house. But now, those brokers can do something their suburban colleagues cannot: place ads on video screens in the back of taxicabs cruising around the city. Call them property taxis. Taxicab video screens, which arrived late last year, are currently installed in more than 11,000 Yellow Cabs. The screens offer a continuous video loop, which lasts about 14 to 18 minutes. About a third of that time is devoted to advertising. ... Find more results for Yellow Cabs on RSSMicro.com |
