BOSTON (AP) -- A combination of Microsoft and Yahoo could reshape the Internet landscape for millions of Web users: Would the two companies join their online portals? Could they rethink the desktop computer to integrate Web content more directly? The changes are potentially huge, but probably not in the short term. Microsoft executives did not indicate Friday exactly what they would do with Yahoo's brand if their bid, now valued at $42 billion, is accepted. But analysts expect the combined companies to preserve many of their separate free services, like instant-messaging and e-mail programs. A more likely medium-term change is that some of Microsoft's Web content could fade away or get added to Yahoo, which has a vast collection of news and features aggregated from other providers. Microsoft's Web properties, including its Yahoo-like MSN portal, aren't exactly slouches: They rank third, trailing only Yahoo and Google, in total visitors. But while Yahoo still is profitable, Microsoft's online services are a consistent money Loser. The MSN search engine is a laggard, even with recent efforts to soup it up under Microsoft's online umbrella it calls ''Live.'' Having Yahoo in its tent could give Microsoft a rationalization for abandoning its unprofitable online elements. ''I think MSN folds into Yahoo,'' said Ian Campbell, CEO of Nucleus Research. ''It would be foolish to keep that separate.'' Perhaps the Biggest change Microsoft and Y ... Source: india.seekingalpha.com --- 25 days ago
Recap of Jim Cramer’s comments on Stop Trading! Friday April 11. Click on a stock ticker for more analysis. General Electric (GE), CIT Group (CIT), National Oilwell Varco (NOV): The Biggest Loser from GE’s disappointing quarter is CIT Group, and Cramer says the company is “dead in the water.” Given the success of GE’s wind power business, Cramer predicts alternative power is where the growth is, but he still likes oil stock NOV. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Google (GOOG), Intel (INTC): Cramer says tech is “just awful” and is puzzled that investors are actually retreating to the sector for safety rather than finding refuge in defense stocks. He said Intel is “dead money” and remarked if he were a customer of AMD, he’d call Intel for backup. Cramer doesn’t have hope for Google when Microsoft, Yahoo and News Corp are getting together to break the dominance of the internet giant. He also discussed Google’s regrettable business model which accommodates the company’s “hiring binge.” Complete Story » ... Source: www.bloggingstocks.com --- 13 days ago

That weakening economy we keep hearing about? It doesn't affect everyone equally. Billionaires who made their fortune in technology, for instance, seem to be doing just fine, according to this year's Forbes list . Microsoft (MSFT) founder Bill Gates, for instance, is no longer the world's richest man (he fell to third behind Warren Buffett and Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim Helu). But his net worth still increased by a couple of billion. All of the Google (GOOG) guys are better off than they were a year ago. And Amazon (AMZN) founder/CEO Jeff Bezos almost doubled his net worth. The Biggest Loser? Google remained the leader by a country mile with 58.5 percent of the nearly 10.5 billion Internet searches performed in the U.S. last year. Line of the Night: Joe Johnson (5.57) clearly wants to make the playoffs. He scored 34 points last night, including 6 threes, while shooting 62% from the field. He also had 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Since Carlos Delfino (5.03) is available in one of my Yahoo leagues, I guess that makes him eligible for WWLotN. He didn't score 34 like Dub-J but he did make 6 three pointers last night, and ended up with 24 points. He added 5 rebounds, an assists, a steal, and a block. Unfortunately for anyone still in any sort of fantasy basketball hunt, I would recommend you NOT pick up Delfino. He hasn't had a game even close to that one since March 30th, and it seems unlikely that it'll happen again in the next 5 days. A somewhat less risky pickup would be Tyrus Thomas (4.32) who had 20 and 14 with 3 assists and 3 blocks. In April, Dub-T has been averaging 29 minutes per game, and he can be very efficient with that time. He's still definitely a risk, but if you need a few more rebounds and blocks to contend for whatever you're contending for, then he might be worth throwing in the ring. The Biggest Loser: Watch out for Gilbert Arenas (2.02). I'm sure there were at least a couple people counting on him to come back from injury and save them, but it's clear that he's just trying to get his legs back a little before the playoffs. And with his shooting the way it is (4/10, 5/14, 2/8 the last 3 games) he's ... Source: www.truthonthemarket.com --- 5 days ago
This just in: Microsoft withdrew its most recent bid for Yahoo and announced it will not be making a hostile move for Yahoo. This comes on the heels of the announcement a mere day ago that Yahoo and Microsoft were sitting down to try to hammer out a friendly deal. Fickle, that Microsoft is! Allow me to answer questions folks might ask in the aftermath: 1. Question: What does this retreat by Microsoft say about the economy and the M&A market? Answer: Nothing. Nada. Microsoft wanted to buy Yahoo for cheap. Yahoo wanted no part of that. Over the past 20 months, while Yahoo’s stock has been weak, it has traded on-and-off in the $30-ish range. Microsoft’s final $33 per share bid was nothing to write home about. If Microsoft was making a credible bid and they thought Yahoo was a good long-term strategic acquisition, we would have seen bid prices moving up further than they have over the past three months. 2. Question: What is going to happen on Monday to Yahoo’s stock price? Answer: Yahoo’s stock price is going to get pummeled by arbs exiting their short-term investment. The drop in Yahoo’s stock price will mean nothing of substance. I promise. So, while the media is going to get all excited on Monday about the drop in price, and the 5 p.m. news on Monday is going to talk about Yahoo being the day’s Biggest Loser, ignore the chatter. Or buy Yahoo stock while it is cheap. 3. Question: Is t ... Source: bkencade.blogspot.com --- 22 days ago

How many diet plans are there? And how many have you tried? The word diets in a Google search returns 26 million results; that number is 66 million in a Yahoo search. What’s a dieter to do? Weight gain is normal for Boomers. And I honestly believe that the only successful way to lose weight is to eat well-balanced, relatively low-fat, modestly low-calorie meals and stick to a basic exercise regimen. At the moment, however, that strategy is not working for me. I only need to drop twenty pounds to get back in the ideal range for my height but so far I’ve lost less than five of those pounds since starting my plan in January; and I gained them all back in March. There are reviews of 50 different diets on the WebMD site . Some are highly-advertised weight loss plans you have probably heard of, such as Atkins, Slim Fast, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, South Beach and Dr. Phil’s Ultimate Weight Solution. There is even one connected to the Biggest Loser television show. Some less well-known diets include the Fat Smash Diet, the French Women Don’t Get Fat Diet, the Hallelujah Diet, Eat This Not That and the Shangri-La Diet. But I’ve invented one that is so simple that I’m surprised no one thought of it before. I call it the No Cash Diet. A thorough analysis of my eating habits this year revealed a serious addiction to the vending machines at work. I’ve even written about this in the past. When I get the 3pm hungries , which ... It seemed that the Biggest story that came out of last night's Democratic debate was not what Hilary Clinton or Barack Obama said, but the horrible performance of the moderators, Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos. "ABC Blows It" ( The Huffington Post ) "What If ABC Held a Debate, but Forgot to Show Up? ( Yahoo News ) "This Horrible 'Debate'"( Atlantic Online ) "In Pa. Debate, the Clear Loser is ABC" ( Washington Post ) And the press wasn't the only one complaining. Viewers complained as well (over 14,000). Including this viewer. How many more times and many more ways can Sen. Obama say he doesn't agree with his FORMER pastor Jerimiah Wright? And what the heck does Rev. Wright's patriotism have to do with Sen. Obama? It was almost an hour before they asked them questions about actual issues, you know like foreign policy, the economy. And then to find out that George Stephanopoulos had been fed the question about William Ayers from Fox News host Sean Hannity!!! And wasn't Mr. Stephanopoulos an former aide of President Bill Clinton? Isn't that a conflict of interest? Hmmm....something in the milk ain't clean. ...
