Sir Lagzalot from the Halo 3 forums made a post where he claimed to be working for Comcast. Furthermore he claimed to use his notably high level of access to get revenge on some Xbox Live players who were DDoS-ing his 360 while he was trying to play. He goes on to claim that he was a 2.5 tier support agent, which means he was about as good as it gets as far as Comcast support goes and that he was actually employed by Convergsys, a company that Comcast had outsourced some support work to in Canada. Well apparently he got sick of the crap, looked up the kid’s IP, and thus had access to his account information, then called his father, who was the real owner of the account. Informed the father of the potentially illegal activities his son was involved in. Then Sir Lagzalot claims to have heard the man beat his kid with the whole thing ending in what he swore was the sound of an Xbox being smashed. Then the father put the kid on the phone with the “Comcast Rep” and Sir Lagzalot identified himself as the guy they were just being dicks to, talk about Pwned. Anyways, through various efforts he was eventually identified as Mark Ribeiro, his picture above, Comcast has requested Convergsys remove him from the Comcast account and that he be investigated for the likely several acts of unlawfulness displayed by this event. Maybe Sir Lagzalot will write a book about it, “Power Corrupts; Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely”. ...

Microsoft has announced that they have taken action today against those gamers who have gained Gamerscore points and Achievements through cheating. Some of the more serious offenders have probably found a nice welcome on their 360 today showing that their Gamerscore has been reset to zero. Besides that, they can no longer gain those lost achievements ever again and their account on Xbox.com and personal Gamercard now clearly identifies them as a cheater. They can still gain future achievements through fair means, but yes, they’ve essentially received the Xbox Live version of a tar and feathering. Ah, sweet internet justice. Microsoft justice is cold but apt. If you tried to goose your Xbox Live Gamerscore to match Chen's (he's an achievement demon, but I still rock his face at Halo ) with game save hacks, the long arm of Microsoft is squeezing your nuts right about now. To start, they're nuking your Gamerscore, and you can't go back and re-earn zapped achievements, no matter how many times you kill 50,000 zombies. But here's the real burn: Your account is forever branded as a cheater, so everyone instantly knows that you're a horrible human being. You can't scrub that shame off, no matter how much shit you talk. [ Major Nelson ] ...

Administrators of Microsoft 's Xbox Live online gaming community have cracked down on those who are found to be tampering with their Xbox Live Gamerscore. "Today we took action on some of the accounts we have identified as the most serious offenders who have violated the Xbox Live Terms of Use by tampering with their Gamerscore and achievements." administrator Major Nelson wrote in a post on Tuesday. Those who were caught suffered a variety of punishments, such as having their Gamerscore reset to zero, all registered achievements canceled and some had their accounts labeled as Cheaters on the Xbox Live service and Xbox.com. The response from Xbox Live users has been mostly positive. Back in October, Nelson had warned against the cheating activity. "I strongly urge you not to tamper with your Gamerscore and achievements. If you do decide to employ some nefarious techniques to artificially increase your Gamerscore or obtain achievements by manipulating the Xbox software without playing the game, bad things will happen," a post read at the time.  Poster for " The Star Chamber ," courtesy of Moovies There glimmered the embroidered letter, with comfort in its unearthly ray. Elsewhere the token of sin, it was the taper of the sick-chamber. It had even thrown its gleam, in the sufferer's hard extremity, across the verge of time. It had shown him where to set his foot, while the light of earth was fast becoming dim, and ere the light of futurity could reach him. --from " The Scarlet Letter ," by Nathaniel Hawthorne Yesterday, Microsoft announced a new form of rough justice for those who would dare to cheat its system of Achievement Points and Gamerscores. Offenders would have their gamerscore--a mark of their progression through various Xbox 360 games--reset to zero; their specifically forfeited achievement points permanently removed, never to again be regained; and their gamercard emblazoned a tag indicating that "They've been caught cheating." Intrigued by the frontier mentality behind such public shaming of scofflaws, we reached out to Microsoft with some questions that hadn't fully been answered by their FAQ . Here's what Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten told us via email. When did you decide to take the steps that were publicly outlined today to punish people who are determined to be tampering with their game saves? We have always invested in upholding the Live Terms of Use through penalizing violations with user and or console bans. The method o ...

Microsoft is cracking down on Xbox Live Cheaters. Redmond introduced anti-Gamescore cheating tools and procedures on Xbox Live on Wednesday. If caught, Cheaters will see their Gamescore reset to zero and get a message explaining that they got their hand caught in the hacker jar. "Today we took action on some of the accounts we have identified as the most serious offenders who have violated the Xbox Live Terms of Use by tampering with their Gamescore and Achievements," Microsoft Xbox Live administrator Major Nelson wrote on his blog. Specifically, Microsoft reset the entire Gamescore for cheater accounts to zero. Those Cheaters will be unable to regain their previously obtained Achievements and Gamescore, but can keep future achievements by earning them fairly. Finally, the account will be clearly labeled as a cheater for the community to view on Xbox.com and on the personal view of the gamecard in the dash. Xbox Live Community Reacts Nelson warned Xbox Live users not to cheat in October. His latest blog post on the topic had nearly 250 comments by noon Eastern time on Wednesday. Most of the commenters welcomed the action, but some criticized Microsoft. "CheaterMcCheat from Cheatville who's a dirty cheater? What's wrong with just the official 'find out more' subtitle? Wow, Microsoft has released a new low of immaturity," wrote a commenter called netgem21. The commenter was referring to the example page Microsoft offe ...

Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb wrote on his blog today, that the Xbox Live Gamertags of confirmed Cheaters have been corrected. He explained what his team is doing to the accounts of the most serious offenders: Resetting the entire Gamerscore for an account to zero The account will be unable to regain all previously obtained achievements and Gamerscore, however, the players will have the ability to gain future Achievements by earning them fairly, like the majority of the Xbox Live community does. The account will be clearly labeled as a cheater for the community to view on Xbox.com. In dash, the personal view of the gamercard will be labeled as well. "Xbox Live remains committed to keeping the service free of cheating in order to maintain a fair and level playing field for everyone," Hyrb wrote.
