The Dell Adamo XPS really is discontinued even though it’s still available for purchase

Surely you all remember the 9.9mm thin Dell Adamo XPS , one of the thinnest laptops you can buy – well it appears to have been discontinued by Dell. The Adamo line of laptops will continue but the Adamo has been pulled from the shelves and listed as “discontinued” by places such as Best Buy. Dell however claims that the laptop was a proof of “Dell’s design and engineers capabilities” and said that the ultraportable was more like a “limited edition” model. Whether the model is a true, but unannounced Limted Edition model, or just been pulled due to faults or lack of purchases is yet to be discovered by inside sources. One thing still remains though – you can no longer order or purchase the Adamo XPS. ...

I'm looking to buy a dell, the Studio XPS and Alienware series are pretty much the only hardware that fulfill my criterias.  I was looking for a core i7, blu-ray drive and 1080p resolution. It's actually a pretty hard combination to find. My issue is that with these type of high performance components, heating becomes a problem. Which series would you think has less heating problems?  And is the heating even an issue without a cooling pad? Suggestions and comments welcome! ...

A lot of gadget blogs like Gizmodo and…well… us have been reporting the death of the Dell Adamo XPS. I guess seeing it pulled from the website was enough to make anyone jump to the wrong conclusion, huh? Fortunately, Dell actually is still for sale at select Best Buy stores and their website for $1,999.00. All right, the Adamo lives! We can’t say that we barely knew you. So i was all set to buy an Alienware Aurora, then i decided to build w/ the same components using and XPS9000. The only thing i wasn't able to match identically was the optical drive, which i really don't care about. So after i built them both i notice that the XPS 9000 is $100 cheaper and comes with a monitor. Help me out am i missing something here? If the monitor is valued at $200 what exactly is the $300 difference here? Is it really just the alienware name and case? And if so keeping in mind that i'm building this desktop for gaming specifically will the alienware case make a difference (better cooling, accessability, etc..) Below are the specs for each.     Dell Studio XPS 9000 OPERATING SYSTEM                     Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English WARRANTY AND SERVICE            2 Year Basic Service Plan    MEMORY                                            9GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 6 DIMMs    HARD DRIVE                                     1TB Performance RAID 0 (2x500GB SATA 7200 RPM HDDs)    VIDEO CARD                                     ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5    MONITOR    21.5"                             Dell ST2210 Full HD Monitor with VGA cable    OPTICAL DRIVE                              16X DVD+/-RW Drive    SPEAKERS                                       No speakers (Speakers are required to hear audio from                     your system) SOUND CARD                                  Integrated 7.1 ...

Hello everyone, I own a Dell XPS 600 desktop computer and I haven't replaced any parts inside since purchasing this computer, and now I'm looking into replacing the video card and sound card. But since there are so many new and improved things, I'm unsure as to what I should look at and what's compatible with my PC. Currently I have a Nvidia 7800 GTX graphics card and for sound, SB Audigy 2 ZS by Creative. ...

A few weeks ago, I blogged about our fix for throttling issues that some of our Studio XPS 1645 customers had experienced.  In that post, I mentioned that there would be more information coming for customers with other systems. This post focuses on how we're addressing throttling for Studio XPS 1647 customers. Recently, we released a new BIOS update (revision A04) to correct throttling issues on our Studio XPS 1647 line. In the case of the Studio XPS 1647, a 90-watt AC adapter is sufficient to run the CPU and the GPU at full performance. With the older BIOS versions for the 1647 the amount of power that the system could draw from the adapter was limited, and in some cases that limitation caused slower performance. Version A04 raises that limit which allows the system to operate at full performance.  With the new A04 BIOS, based on testing completed by our engineering teams, we're confident that customers will be able to push their Studio XPS 1647 laptops to performance levels they expect with a 90-watt adapter. So, why is the 130-watt adapter suggested for some Studio XPS 1645 users, but not for Studio XPS 1647 users? The Studio XPS 1647 uses the newer Intel Arrendale processors which require less power to run efficiently.    Because of this, the Studio XPS 1647 does not require the same level of power that some 1645 configurations do. We do understand that some customers have reported that their 90-watt adapters get hot while poweri ...

Let me catch you up. We received a tip back on Monday indicating that the Adamo XPS had disappeared from Dell.com. This of course caught our attention as the super-thin Dell was just announced back in late October and only available for purchase since December. We of course checked it out and found that the XPS model wasn’t found on the Adamo microsite (www.AdamoByDell.Com), which just so happens to be the first site listed on Google for that model. The Adamo XPS also wasn’t listed alongside the other Adamo models or on Dell.com’s master notebook list that also includes Alienware models. The only way you can find it on Dell.com is if you use the search tool and even then the purchase link on the product page is dead . We then reached out to our Dell contacts, but they didn’t respond in a timely manner. I then asked two separate Dell chat agents who both clearly stated that the Adamo XPS was discontinued. Satisfied with the conclusion that the XPS was in fact gone, I ran the post not thinking anything of it. It was just another news story to me. But not to dell apparently. Several other sites ran similar stories on Monday except they simply asked the question whether or not the Adamo XPS was discontinued rather than stating my conclusion that it was dead. Throughout the day, these stories were updated, quoting an official dell spokesmen that stated that the model was in fact still around and not discontinued. Dell finally emailed us ...

Dell today provided an official explanation for the disappearance of the Adamo XPS from most of its online stores. The Texas PC builder in a statement now argues that the ultraportable is actually “similar to a limited edition” and was never designed to be a long-term product. It was an “engineering marvel” meant to show what Dell could do and is simply nearing the end of its run, the company claimed….
