It even found 2 numbers on T-Mobile and 1 on Comcast that were ported in the past 3 weeks. I played with this a little. It works but requires a dial plan for each call. I setup Asterisk to prepend the 1010. It works for listed numbers but returns a recording if the number is not found. This prevents Asterisk from automatically sending the call to the next trunk, and doesn't automatically attempt the call on Gizmo outgoing paid service. Anyone have any ideas on how to use this more like ENUM? ...

Tucked away in Deepshikha Monga's short article, "OLPC looks to World Bank for India funding" is a XO laptop bombshell: "Later this year, the XO laptops are expected to hit the retail stores. Sources say Reliance Communications, which partnered OLPC Foundation to conduct an XO pilot project in Maharashtra last year, is looking at retailing these laptops bundled with its CDMA modems." Might this be the reason for Nicholas Negroponte's visit to India in August for OLPC India Day? Regardless, it would be a shocking yet welcomed shift in strategy for One Laptop Per Child. ...

Microsoft has released to the OLPC project the specially tweaked version of Windows XP that will be offered on the XO notebook. The new version of the machine should be available in September, according to James Utzschneider, General Manager of Marketing and Communications for the Unlimited Potential Group. Windows on the OLPC device was rumored for some time, with Microsoft claiming it was unsure whether their OS would work on the low-cost XO notebook. Both companies officially announced the partnership back in May, at which point they suggested the Windows versions would ship in August or September. However the tweaked software will not be available for those individuals who have already acquired an XO. A limited number of buyers were able to purchase the notebook through the OLPC “Give 1, Get 1″ program, in which individuals bought two XO machines, one for themselves and one for donation to an underprivileged young person. “Windows on the XO looks like it is on track for availability in these types of national educational PC deals in September. We still have no plans to make Windows available for individuals who bought an XO in the Give 1 Get 1 program though” James Utzschneider, General Manager of Marketing and Communications, Unlimited Potential Group Anyone care to guess how long before the modified OS finds its way onto the BitTorrent sites? Intel to reveal technology that turns on the PC on receiving telephone calls Microprocessor industry giant Intel is all set to launch a new technology which would turn on the PC when it receives a call over the internet. This technology could further boost the usage of the computer as a replacement for a telephone connection. Currently, the PC has to remain on to perform similar tasks which is an energy wasting alternative. Trevor Healy, chief executive of Jajah spoke about this technology: “This certainly helps the PC become a much better center of Communications in the home.” Jajah would become the first of the telephony services to make use of this technology to provide their services.
