I assume that the nearly 200 Christian clerical and lay leaders (plus a smattering of Jews and Zoroastrians) from the United States who dined with Mohammed Ahmdinejad the other night at the United Nations had a spiritually rewarding experience. Certainly, they now understand the depth of A'jad's grievance against the West and why he wants Israel destroyed. Maybe, since these men and woman are so alert to the pain of others, they may also grasp how their guest, the president of Iran, says again and again that the Jewish catastrophe (1939-1945) never happened. This, by the way, despite the fact that 1000 Jewish Refugee children, mostly orphans from the Nazi occupation of Poland, passed through Tehran on their way to Palestine in 1943. History calls these boys and girls "The Tehran Children." Presumably, the Iranian leader does not. Friday was Al-Quds Day in the Arab sector of the Muslim World...and also in Iran. There the Basiji militia, captained years back by A'jad himself, as was reported in a definitive article by Matthias Kunzel in TNR, held a rally at which even under-teenage children said they would never forget Jerusalem. A newly published book denying the Holocaust was also distributed. It featured a cartoon depicting hook-nosed Jews with beards "leaving and re-entering a gas chamber with a counter that reads the number 5,999,999." Very funny. A good time was had by all. What do the president's hosts make of this? Ah, yes, ... Source: tcdailyplanet.net --- 94 days ago

In 25 cities around the World and in a few thousand others, a global race with a difference was run today. The event was to run for 10 kilometers for charity. The race was sponsored by Nike Plus . Every mile run with Nike+ products and on race Day would decide how much is donated to each charity. The charities that benefited from this race were Lance Armstrong Foundation , UN Refugee Agency and World Wildlife Fund . Ever since I ran a half marathon earlier this year, I have been looking forward to another run for a cause. I also happened to be project leader for our organization's volunteer program for this event. It felt good to run a 'human race' for a change that raised millions of dollars today. It was quite difference from the every Day rat race! The distance was enough to break sweat but not impossible. Just over an hour from the start, I was back collecting freebies from the Nike store. While I was running, I kept thinking how the 1-1.5 hr time window also matches the OCP exams. The exams should be challenging enough to break sweat but not impossible to complete! ... It is the not-too-distant future. Thousands of satellites scan, observe and monitor our every move. Much of the planet is a war zone; the rest, a collection of wretched way stations, teeming megalopolises, and vast wastelands punctuated by areas left radioactive from nuclear meltdowns. It is a World made for hardened warriors, one of whom, a mercenary known only as Toorop, lives by a simple survivor's code: kill or be killed. His latest assignment has him smuggling a young woman named Aurora from a convent in Kazakhstan to New York City. Toorop, his new young charge Aurora and Aurora's guardian Sister Rebeka embark on a 6,000 mile journey that takes them from Eastern Europe, through a Refugee camp in 'New Russia,' across the Bering Straight in a pilfered submarine, then through the frozen tundra of Alaska and Canada, and finally to New York. Facing obstacles at every turn, Toorop, the killer for hire, is tested like never before, in ways he could never have imagined--as he comes to understand that he is the custodian of the only hope for the future of mankind. For the first time in his life, Toorop has to make a choice: to make a difference or walk away and save himself. Too bad it came on the Day he died. ... Pictures that Fooled the World: Refugee Camp or a "Death Camp"? "Judgment" documentary, exposing Western fraud in Bosnia (32 min.) Emperor's Clothes which translated, edited and helped bring the RTS documentary "Judgment" to the Western audience, wrote : "In August 1992, millions of people were shocked to see photographs of a supposed Bosnian Serb death camp. "The photos were produced by ITN, the British TV news giant, from footage shot by an ITN film crew which spent a long Day in Bosnia. The film was shot in a Refugee center in the town of Trnopolje. (Pronounced Tern-op-ol-yay) "Most of the photographs featured a tall, emaciated man with a deformed chest, stripped to the waist, apparently imprisoned behind barbed wire. Do you remember those pictures? "They were a hoax." Documentary Judgment exposes the fraud, revealing how the World was fooled with the fake imagery, prompting the Westerners to demand punishment for the Serbs. Western mainstream media-instigated mass hysteria served as a green light for the US-led NATO leaders to openly side with Croats, Bosnian Muslims and Kosovo Albanians in the Yugoslav civil wars against the Serbs, to help expel Krajina and Slavonia Serbs from Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo-Metohija Serbs, and to repeatedly bomb Bosnian Serbs and Serbia in the 1990s. Neither the film crew which created the fraud, nor the British ITN which employed them to either find or create the imagery sufficiently exp ... Source: www.blog.newsweek.com --- 35 days ago
On July 12, a dozen or so anti-war protesters from the Chicago-based Voices for Creative Non-Violence set off on a 500-mile trek to the convention. They've been walking 12 miles a Day, meeting with local peace groups at night. Newsweek's Sarah Kliff caught up with Dan Pearson, the march's organizer, a just before their arrival in the Twin Cities: Newsweek: What are you protesting? Pearson: As we're coming into an election season, Iraq seems to be disappearing from the headlines but there's still a Refugee and humanitarian crisis. We're calling for specific things like the full reconstruction of Iraq and the highest quality healthcare for vets who return. How does walking to the RNC get that message across? Walking is a very good way to reach out to regular people. People approach us and have discussions. Also, we think it's pretty powerful to show that we're willing to modify our own lifestyle in order to create a World that we'd rather see. What's been your most interesting stop? As we were coming through the Fort McCoy military reservation [in Wisconsin], many of the soldiers who we walked past were waving at us, giving us thumbs up and peace signs. That was really encouraging. You've been walking for nearly two months. Do your feet hurt? My feet feel great, but I do have some serious holes in my shoes. But after a week or so, you kind of get into a groove. ... Source: www.worldmusicwire.com --- 20 days ago
World Music News Wire As a pregnant 19-year-old, Manze Dayila drifted in a small boat patched together with tar and burlap, accompanied by dozens of other Haitians who dreamed of a better life in the USA. Circling sharks, swelling waves, and endless ocean magnified the fear of what awaited her. Faced with these challenges, Dayila remembers, “I almost lost my sanity on that boat. To this Day it’s like a nightmare that won’t go away.” Dayila risked her life on a perilous journey in the hopes of creating a better life for her family. Over the next two decades, Dayila transformed herself from helpless Refugee to empowered artist. This transformation resounds on Dayila’s first album, Solé (As Is Entertainment), which captures the warmth and beauty of Haitian tradition, the raucous playfulness of Dayila’s guiding spirits, and the long, hard voyage that brought her to discover and nurture her talent for singing. The journey began when a very young, very pregnant Dayila boarded a ramshackle boat setting sail for America. Undaunted by the risks, Dayila knew she had to make this sacrifice. “When I look at it,” Dayila reflects, “it was a very powerful piece of history, something I have to share with the whole World. The best way to help one another is to understand each other’s situation.” Three days into the voyage, the boat reached Cuba and Dayila was very ill. The authorities impounded the vessel. “They saw the boat could not make it. They sa ... Source: bitchwhore.buzznet.com --- 33 days ago

ON Friday 20th, Tanzania joined other international communities in celebrating the annual World Refugee Day. The country has become the main centre of hosting refugees who flock from outside since way back in 1972. The first batch of refugees came from Burundi when the country struck into a hot political turmoil forcing more than 6,000 people to seek for refuge. Other nationals came from Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa during the struggle for their country’s liberation, they had to flee to seek for safety. All the refugees are now back to their respective countries. A National Service brass band leading the procession from Mnazi Mmoja ground to Karimjee hall during the celebrations to mark the World Refugee Day in Dar es Salaam. The purpose of World Refugee Day is to draw attention to the plight of refugees, celebrate their courage and resilience, and renew commitment to solving Refugee problems. It is also an opportunity to recognize the contribution which refugees make to the countries which host them. On this sixth anniversary of the United Nations-designated World Refugee Day, thousands of organizations in hundreds of countries comes together to focus global attention not only on the plight of refugees and the causes of their exile, but also on their determination in order to survive and on the contributions they make to their host communities. Out in the wilds of west Wales, where we have actually been suffering a drought of our very own (no water coming out of the taps at our off-grid hilltop farm), it is sometimes hard to remember there are millions of people worldwide whose lives are acutely threatened by drought on a daily basis. ABC News reported on a Day of events that aimed to draw attention to the issues of water resources in Africa, which some argue is directly increasing the number of refugees worldwide. The former Portuguese prime minister, Antonio Guterres, is now the UN's High Commissioner for refugees. He says climate change is an ever-growing problem, fueling conflict and thus indirectly fueling the growth in Refugee numbers, as in the case of Darfur. "There is an increased competition for water resources. We need a political solution for Darfur, but that solution will not be stable, if at the same time we don't solve the underlying problems of dwindling water resources. "What climate change is doing is in many circumstances reducing resources, increasing the competition for resources and because of that, triggering or amplifying conflicts." http://www.unhcr.org/news/NEWS/4857e8872.html UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency set up a Refugee camp in Trafalgar Square yesterday to draw attention to the scale of this humanitarian issue, which is happening now, people are suffering now because of climate change. http://www.unhcr.org/news/NEWS/4857e8872.html For n ... Never one to turn to humanitarian work, Angelina Jolie has recorded a public service announcement for World Refugee Day (June 20) to help raise awareness about the plight of millions of people at risk. The 33-year "Wanted" actress was originally committed to the work of the UN refugees during a February 2001 visit to war-torn Sierra Leone in West Africa , before shooting - across borders with Clive Owen. "They survived the war, they survived displacement, they have survived rape, they have survived hunger and disease," said Angelina Jolie (who expects the twins with Brad Pitt this summer).
