Pakistan’s status in the cricketing World has declined precipitously. The reasons for this, according to some of the leading figures of Pakistan cricket, range from security issues to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s internal problems, a change in players’ attitudes and the ICC’s “shoddy handling of various issues”. Daily News and Analysis ’ Ankita Pandey talks to Asif Iqbal and Javed Miandad about the sorry state of the game in their country. Asif Iqbal, former captain and now an ICC match referee, agrees that change in Pakistan cricketers’ attitude has affected the game. “The 80s and the 90s were certainly the best years of Pakistan cricket… Even early 2000. Somewhere between early 2002 and 2003 we saw a tremendous change in the players’ attitude towards the game,” he says. “By this I mean that cricket took backstage and senior players in particular led the decline in team ethics and discipline. The Juniors lacked proper encouragement and opportunities as the old brigade clung to each other and kept a tight hold on the reigns. Not necessarily for cricketing reasons. Sporting culture was no longer a part of the dressing room.” Meanwhile, Pradeep Magazine, in his article in the Hindustan Times , attributes Pakistan’s lack of money-power as the main reason for cricket’s regression in the country. Poor Pakistan! What does it have to offer to the cricketing World? Neither sponsors flush with money, or mouthwatering prospects to play in a leag ...

posted by pokerguru Tennis coach Carlos Rodriguez, an interesting and intelligent man, who took Justine Henin out of the Juniors and brought her tennis fame has recently opened a branch of their 6 th . Sense Tennis Academy at the Mission Inn Resort and Club at Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Both Carlos and Justine see an opportunity in the US to provide a training centre for Juniors with good potential whose parents are seeking professional coaching from someone with a proven track record. Carlos says that, “Justine retired from the tour to prove to herself that she could do something other than hit a tennis ball. But what she left behind after her best year in 2007, was a tour with just three legitimate Hall of Fame players in the persons of the Williams sisters and Maria Sharapova, and a bunch of developing players who really couldn’t hold Justine’s old worn out pair of socks!” He went on to say, “outside of the Sisters and Maria the rest are still poor.” “It is a sad reflection on the quality of the players, when a player who has yet to win a Major tournament can be elevated to the position of Number 1 in the World.” Carlos was referring to the rise of Jelena Jankovic, who with her recent win in Asia entered the Kremlin Cup in Moscow ranked as the number one player. As Carlos was quick to point out Jelena’s record against Justine was 0-9. He insists that Serena has the potential to dominate the ladies tour for another two or three ye ...

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has shrugged off amazing criticism from former Argentina keeper Hugo Gatti. Former Boca Juniors No1 Gatti is no fan of Casillas and rapped during the week: “At present he can be the best in the World and that is in spite of him being a horrendous goalkeeper. He does not know the ABC of the arc and never catches the ball. “What happens is that he makes an important save in a game which means the team win and then has the positive repercussions.” read more ...

The Gold Report submits: Financial World chaos and extreme market volatility have pretty much sidelined the vast majority of the Juniors in the diamond mining sector, according to RBC Capital Markets'—the corporate and investment banking arm of Royal Bank of Canada (NYSE: RY)— highly regarded diamond analyst Des Kilalea. The senior players remain solidly in the game—albeit in a rather defensive posture—and can anticipate strong price performance to return once the economic storm subsides. In this exclusive interview, the veteran analyst also steps back to give us a fascinating Cliffs Notes synopsis of Diamond Geology 101. London-based Kilalea, a Global Mining Research Analyst at RBC Capital Markets, focuses on AIM mining companies and on diamond producers. Before joining RBC, he was head of sales for Nedcor Securities in Johannesburg, with special responsibility for mining sales. He also handled diamond and diversified mining company research at Fleming Martin, a Johannesburg-based stockbroker. An accomplished journalist as well as premier diamond analyst, he won Financial Journalist of the Year honors for his work at Finance Week (1989). Complete Story » ...

James Neal was the obvious star of the tournament. He showed he can be an offensive force, he showed he can pick up just about any line he plays on, and he showed he's very strong defensively. Stars co-GM Les Jackson said Neal ``didn't take a shift off,'' and he was right about that. What's important about Neal's defensive play is the fact the opening on the NHL roster might be for a third or fourth line guy. Neal has to be able to beat out someone like Ray Sawada in that role, and he showed he can be just as strong defensively as Sawada. Jamie Benn had five goals and three game-winners, and he will get a good look with the Stars at training camp, but the 19-year-old will not make the team this year. He is slated to return to his team in Kelowna in the Western Hockey League and continue to polish his goal-scoring skills at that level. ``Benn has great hands and he was fantastic,'' Jackson said. ``In the real World, he's better off to go back to the Canadian Hockey League and go back and get even better.'' Benn is among the leading candidates to make Team Canada and play in the World Juniors in Ottawa. `` I think a good goal for him is the World Juniors. That would be a great next step in his career,'' Jackson said. ``Plus, I think he'd look at that as one of the great moments in his life. That's an opportunity that would be very positive for him.'' Fabian Brunnstrom got better every game. By the end of the tournament, he looked hu ...

There seems to be some rumblings on the Plone front for us currently. For our main stable of development however, we have moved away although not totally from Plone to django. The main reason here is that for Plone deals to be feasible for us, we either have to: 1. Lock requirements down really tight so that the Juniors can have a go at it .... or 2. Sic some seniors at it. In my own experience, it seems that while Plone can be easy if worked within a tight parameter, try swaying a bit out of those parameters, when you have to peer under the hood and you are in a World of pain. It's hard to gain leverage using Plone this way. django on the hand has been actually quite young developer friendly for us and they end up being actually more productive compared to when they are forced to make some funky changes in Plone. Most of the business applications that we build require a light framework and is normally built from ground up. This means that Plone is sometimes an overkill for these apps which is a shame because Plone almost always appear like a good fit in the beginning. In the end, to be able to shoehorn Plone in means a lot stripping functionality and code out. For what it's worth we still try to train up our guys to do basic Plone stuff but only time will tell if it makes business sense to invest any time in Plone/Zope. ...

Freshmen, sophomores, and even some Juniors are always facing the same options for dinner at the dining halls. Fridays see macaroni and cheese, chicken, and broccoli on the menu while leftover General Tsu’s chicken will probably be served every other day this upcoming Spring Quarter. That’s why it is important for students who eat at the dining halls to start exercising their food creativity now. Here are a couple of ideas to get your brain cells, and stomachs, churning: Chicken salad sandwich: Nothing is perfect in this World and that is the case with this concoction; however, if you are truly sick and tired of the same thing, then this option is for you. Get a plain bagel or wheat croissant (or your sandwich bread of choice). In a small bowl or plate, chop up some chicken, lettuce, cucumbers and sunflower seeds from the salad bar. When everything is cut to your choice of size, mix everything in with either ranch or Italian dressing. Put the “chicken salad” in between your bread and you’ve got yourself a makeshift sandwich. For those of you who prefer ranch, a light spread of mayonnaise on your bun is one last touch you can add. Fruit salad delight: Get your choice of fruit from the fruit bar and put in a bowl. Any fruit will do, but I personally enjoy strawberries, watermelon and cantaloupe. In the bowl of fruit, sprinkle on some sunflower seeds, and raisins or cranberries if they are available. Then top the fruit bowl off with ...

A club at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School is putting a new twist on the meaning of ‘student loans.’ S.T.E.P. (Students Trying to End Poverty), founded by Juniors Hannah Fitzsimons, 15, and Maya Lund, 16, raises money to loan to struggling businesses in third World countries. The students have become micro-financiers through Kiva, an Internet-based charity that uses field workers to identify working poor in developing countries who have a small-business plan. A local representative investigates the applicant and if he or she is judged a worthy recipient the entrepreneur’s profile and loan request is posted on the charity’s Web site. The lender makes a loan through the site, follows the progress of the small business and eventually receives repayment of the loan. The local Kiva representative distributes and monitors the loan. "This helps them for their whole life rather than giving them food or something temporary," said Fitzsimons. "It helps children and whole families and makes the entrepreneur feel less of a charity case because they are working themselves." Fitzsimons first heard about Kiva, which was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, from a cousin. She told her friend Lund about the organization, and the two students decided to launch the club a year ago. When space wasn’t available at the 2007 fall club fair the girls launched the club on Facebook and recruited 25 members. At this year’s club fair about 40 students exp ...
