I have a ZyXEL NBG334W Wireless cable router, and have just worked out how to set it up to connect to the internet via the modem. E.g. the LAN is connected from the laptop to the router, which is then connected to the modem. This took a fair bit of time and involved complicated things like changing IP addresses. Plus, when I remove the LAN from the laptop, the internet stops working, I'm not too sure if this is supposed to happen as I thought the Wireless ZyXEL thing would mean the internet could operate on the laptop without being plugged into it. I could be wrong, as I said I'm not sure. The problem is: I have another laptop and I would like to set up the internet on it, but without having to connect to anything as this laptop would be situated two floors above the one plugged into the modem. Has anyone got any idea of how to do this? I have tried many different things without really knowing what I'm doing. If anyone could give me a step-by-step guide with simple-ish language as I'm pretty thick when it comes to computers, then that would be great. Thanks for your help :) ...

Into the 2nd week of a new install and most things are working okay. Like most of the complaints, I think this concerns the Actiontec but I'm not sure. I don't do any "torrent" type stuff so I have not had the NAT problem. The problem I'm having is that I have 2 laptops an HP on Vista and a Toshiba A45-S250 on XP. It's using a Belkin 7010 Wireless adapter. The Toshiba is the one with the strange Problems. If I run the speed test I can get reasonable speeds. However, if I try to play and AVI video from another computer that is wired to the router I get stopping/stuttering video. If I'm within 10' of the router the AVI works. The farther the distance the worse it is. Sounds like a signal problem but it says the signal is fine. I don't know what the return signal to the router looks like. When all of this was on a Linksys and cable I never saw the problem. Anybody have any thoughts on this? I there something I should be tweaking in the router? Thanks. Ok, let me start by explaining my setup.... Dslmodem to router - router to PC1 (wired) - router to XBOX360-1(wired) - PC2 with Wireless USB access point - bridged to XBOX360-2. My question is, the PC2 w/ USB adapter is getting a crappy signal and drops pretty regularly....is there a way i can strengthen the connection without external hardware? Im trying not to spend any money on getting this link more stable... Btw- all my Wireless stuff is Wireless-N -MIMO-, Belkin products... ...

Managing a new enterprise deployment such as a mobile device initiative might seem easy for some IT professionals, but Wireless IT has much less in common with traditional IT than they might think. As such, it can bring serious, unexpected Problems. Even the most talented IT managers can quickly find themselves out of their element in supporting a burgeoning number of Wireless devices that all want access to the enterprise back-end. Setting up a mobile Wireless server might seem manageable when you're simply rolling out a few dozen mobile devices to top management. But will the deployment scale over time? Do you need a dedicated server for Wireless solutions? What policy settings should be used? There are over 400 IT policy settings to define for a BlackBerry deployment. Setting up policies incorrectly can lead to serious security gaps that can put important organizational data at risk. Here are five key points IT managers should keep in mind when setting up enterprise Wireless: 1. Don't install on the same server that handles your corporate e-mail . While it's tempting to install your mobile server software (e.g. BlackBerry Enterprise Server) on the same hardware you use for enterprise e-mail, don't do it. To improve troubleshooting and enhance performance, it's best to have dedicated servers to support your mobile users. 2. Carefully grant permissions. A surprising amount of IT managers leave Wireless networks open to outside u ...

I've recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 530, as well as a very inexpensive, generic PCI Wireless adapter (the drivers identify it as a Realtek RTL8185 54M Wireless LAN Network Adapter #2, though the device and packaging label it as nothing more than a "Wireless PCI adapter") from a separate dealer... ...

I just upgraded to static IP's on our Netopia 3347W-NWG006 and followed AT&T's (BellSouth) instructions to the letter. Everything went smoothly and any computer wired to the router as well as most other hardware works just fine after the upgrade, but now all Wireless computers are experiencing major speed fluxuations as well as random disconnects. The odd thing is that the router doesn't’t show any Problems and its statistics show that everything should be working fine. I'm not running out of static IP's either... any ideas why Wireless would be affected by the switch to static IP's? Or was something lacking in AT&T(BellSouth)'s directions? ...
