Ok here's a good one: US Wii with DMS chip, 3.1U Firmware, original wiikey. Did shortwire install (my 9th one) and all looks good under a microscope. Originals read, backups do not. Upgraded wiikey to latest (1.9s or x or whatever the version is - the one with the three dudes see no evil, hear no evil, etc), upgrade tests good then writes good. Same results - can read originals, not backups. Problem now - cannot read upgrade 1.9, or any of the configs. tried gcos 1.3, 1.4, etc, it spins, and when it should spin at a faster rpm, it spins down. Still reads originals. Is this related to starting with Firmware 3.1u? Strange part is, it could read the upgrade disc, and perform the upgrade. Help! My launch day Wii is not working, so this additional purchased Wii not working yet. All help is appreciated. Hobby-Boy. ... Source: games.slashdot.org --- 48 days ago
Engadget is reporting that some recent unofficial Wii modding news has had a couple of interesting breakthroughs. First, it seems that a team has released what is being called the "first custom Firmware for the Wii" that supposedly allows writable DVDs to be read in emulators. Second, the folks from TeamShift have shots of a "working" PSP emulator for the Wii. Unfortunately "working" only means between 4 and 8 frames per second, so still a long way from playable. Croakyvoice writes "Waninkoko has released the world's first custom Firmware for the Nintendo Wii, which is installed using the twilight hack; among its features is the ability to allow writeable DVDs to be read in emulators. From the readme: 'The Custom Firmware installs as IOS249 and it does not modify any other IOS so it is secure to install and has been made to be used ONLY with homebrew software. This is a custom IOS, an IOS modified to add some new features not available in the official IOS.'" Read more of this story at Slashdot. ... Source: www.theinquirer.net --- 45 days ago

I just recently got a Wii which gave me an excuse to actually turn on my Actiontec MI424-WR wireless capabilities. I was a bit dismayed to see that it offers WEP by default, but there is a WPA option, so great... I thought. WPA was a no go. I have gotten the Wii to connect with WEP, and it'll work fine that way. Anytime I try similar options with WPA it just won't connect at all. I'm assuming that this router only supports WPA1, no? I'd like to use the Wii to buy some virtual console game, but I don't like the idea of transmitting anything over WEP. Here's the router's info Firmware: 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7 Model Name: MI424-WR Hardware Version: A Is the WPA implementation just buggy and poor? Anyone have any thoughts or workarounds? Should I try to get a new router? ...

Hello - I am really confused. I tried calling cox, but they are no help. I have three computers, one wired directly to the modem (XP SP2), one wireless laptop (vista), another wireless laptop upstairs (XP SP2), and one wireless Wii downstairs). I use a Linksys WRT54GS router with the latest Firmware 7.2. I called to complain about my download speeds, had a tech come out and test nothing, just look at my 11-year-old com 21 modem and sell me a new motorolla modem for $50. He hooks me up to the test site at lvcm.com and my computer wired directly into the modem hits 21 mb/s. My wireless laptop, ironically sitting not 2 feet away from the "storage" computer, hits 16 mb/s. Not happy about the difference, but still happy. That is, until 5 pm. Hubby gets home and I show him the speed test. Well, guess what? I get my old speeds again... 2 mb/s. On the computer wired directly into the modem (using xp). On the wireless, I actually score about 3 mb/s, but I figure that into a fluke in traffic. Here's the interesting part: my upload speeds are HIGHER than my download speeds on both computers... 4 mb/s. I call cox. They tell me someone's hijacking my connection. Yeah, if that were true, then why: aren't the modem or router lights blinking even if I have no activity; why do I not broadcast my ssid; why do I not use 801.1g with WPA-PSK encryption (not the best, but still, should be enough to defeat most wannabe hackers for more than 6 hours); why is ...

The Wii’s Twilight Hack has been a big hit for the homebrew crowd. Using the software flaw, they’ve been able to play Tetris on their Wiis and even create some custom Wii channels. Nintendo tried to shut that program down, but 8 hours later, it was back. Nobody can keep the homebrew devs down, and [...] ...
