Oh ho ho. We told you to take that White Knight Story -is-dated-for-Japan-December-11th story with a "pinch — nay, a handful — of salt". And good thing! Pictured is the new issue of Famitsu which was supposed to contain this announcement. It doesn't. At all. Not only is there not a single article on the PS3 RPG exclusive, the game isn't even given a launch window. Just look at the cover and see how there's not a single mention of White Knight Story (in Japanese 白騎士物語). You'd think a big Level-5 developed Sony published PS3 exclusive would at least get a cover mention. Still, don't believe us? Hit the jump for the proof. Since there's not an article on the game, let's check out Famitsu release calendar. This section shows what games are coming out this December (12月 in Japanese). Do you see 白騎士物語? We don't. What about a game coming out on December 11th? Nothing! Let's take a gander at the section that show game releases marked "TBA" or 発売日未定. Ah! Look, there White Knight Story (白騎士物語). No release date and no price for this game. We're not saying it isn't coming out on December 11th — we're saying that this issue of Famitsu , which was rumored to dated the game, does not say when it's coming out. So, until there's something official announced, consider this game "TBA" and this Famitsu rumor smashed. ...

Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3 , RPGs Is this what the " day of awakening " was hinting at? Just a couple of days after we got that promise of new info from Sony, we hear that Famitsu has nailed down a date for White Knight Chronicles (that's White Knight Story to you and me): December 11. Now, does that mean that you'll be getting your hands on this terrifically sexy PS3 RPG anytime soon? Well, no, not necessarily. But it's certainly not bad news if you've been salivating since our 2007 hands-on with the game. [Thanks, erico316]   Read  |  Permalink  |  Email this  |  Linking Blogs  |  Comments ...

Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3 , RPGs The Japanese you see in the above image reads "The day of awakening is coming soon." So, that either means that Level-5's long-delayed coffee shipment is finally on the way, or we're about to (also finally) get a fresh look at its mighty big PS3-exclusive RPG, White Knight Story . Last we heard of the game, it was still on for release (in Japan, at least) before March 31, 2009 . The last time we played the game was at Tokyo Game Show 2007. It's about time for an update, and, oh ... TGS 2008 is just around the corner on October 9. So, there's a big question at the end of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight . It was fairly apparent that Aaron Eckhart's star-making character of Harvey Dent, the crusading district attorney who has his life systematically destroyed by Heath Ledger's Joker had met his maker after his last stand. Yet there were many who believed that fall didn't kill him, and that he'd be locked away in Arkham Asylum awaiting a third film. The question of "is Harvey Dent alive" was just posed to Eckhart himself less than an hour ago, at the junket for his new indie film Towelhead , and this was his response. "No. He is dead as a doornail. He ain't coming back, baby. I asked Chris that question, and he goes 'You're dead.' Before I even got the question out of my mouth. 'Hey, Chris, am I - ' 'You're dead.' 'All right, cool.' No, I'm not coming back. I think, unfortunately, Heath was supposed to go on, you know, and that didn't work out. I'm nobody, I'm a cog, so I have no say in this sort of stuff, but I'm sure that there are so many other characters that they can whip together. I mean, I heard Angelina Jolie was going to be Catwoman or something. I thought that was a great idea. I'd like to be in that one!" So there you have it. One mystery solved. We've lost Gotham's White Knight. He was the best of us. ...

White Knight Story looks hot. Or, least it did last time we saw it. Which was at TGS. Been a long time between showings for the game, leading some to wonder where the hell it had got to, but Level 5 have updated the game's website to confirm that, yes, it's still around. And what more, we should be seeing more of it soon, the site saying 'The day of awakening is coming soon". How soon? The Tokyo Game Show kicks off in a bit over a month, that's unlikely to be a coincidence. ...

Yesterday, I was "In the Club" with White Williams. Alfred University's Knight Club to be exact. After enduring a pretty generic rock band playing pretty generic rock songs and freshmen who had a bit too much energy and a bit too much inclination to mosh to absolutely anything, White Williams arrived. With very few lights on the small Knight Club stage, it was hard to see, but he looked particularly elfish with his button up shirt and rolled up dress pants. He and his two cohorts began what seemed like a sound check at first before launching into a sonic assault of electronic noise and bass explosions. White Williams was armed with what looked like a suitcase with a keyboard, lap top and some mean electronics, while one of his cohorts wielded a guitar with ample effects pedals and the other wielded a high hat, a snare and a sweet looking drum trigger pad. Whether it was due to the Knight Club's muddy sound, or the stripped down nature of White William's live performance, each song off of his debut LP "Smoke", was transformed into sublime noise rather than sublime electro-pop. His relatively well known singles "New Violence" (The version he played featured samples of Alfred's Bell Tower) and "Violator" were transformed into throbbing kick drum and snare affairs with a synth loop squiggle here and a guitar lick there. Even though the tight, clear sounding, grooves of his album were pretty indisquishable, the songs were still enjoyable, tr ...

One of my favorite books about the investment world isn't a how-to-get-rich book at all. Its title is "Do You Sincerely Want To Be Rich?: The Full Story of Bernard Cornfeld and I.O.S." Published in 1971, it's the true story of Bernie Cornfeld, the one-time Brooklyn delivery boy who founded Investors Overseas Services (IOS), a mutual fund selling company based in Europe that shone like a star in the go-go 1960s but stumbled when the market began to tank in 1968 and collapsed in scandal in 1970. Cornfeld succeeded--for a while--by guaranteeing outsized results. But an ambitious salesman is always tempted to promise more than even a very talented fund manager can deliver, especially when a bear market starts to gnaw on highly leveraged investments. IOS, like many similar enterprises, ran into a rough patch and began using newly invested money to cover existing obligations. Cornfeld wound up victimized by an even bigger crook, Robert Vesco, who came to IOS as a White Knight, but wound up vampiring off $500 million of IOS's cash reserves to cover his own investment losses. Cornfeld spent some time in a Swiss jail and was forced to spend his final days in Beverly Hills with just one mansion. Tragic. In 1973, Vesco fled the U.S. with a reported $200 million and lived a colorful, scam-filled life before dying in a Cuban prison in 2007. But I digress. Cornfeld himself was a classic huckster and playboy who lived very large during a time when th ...

The Dark Knight Alright, so I realize the movie came out a little while ago, but no one has done a review of it and it is so deserving. Dark Knight takes the horrifying underbelly of the real Gotham City and exposes it to the light in such a brilliant fashion that even people who have not previously been fans of Batman will enjoy it. The movie is a little long at 2 1/2 hours but I haven't spoken to anyone who didn't feel it flew by. There is little "downtime" in the movie, and the exchange between the action scenes and dramatic scenes are well done. The movie is really made with a well-chosen cast of actors. Christian Bale has the stone-cold facade necessary to pull off the anti-hero of Batman, Heath Ledger gives a stellar (and surprisingly maniacal) performance as the joker, and Aaron Eckhart turns from White Knight to psychopathic judge so quickly you wonder as an audience member if he was ever as good as you once thought him to be. However, it's clear that the experience of director/writer/cinematographer Christopher Nolan (who also directed films Batman Begins, The Prestige, and Memento) did much of the work in creating the right atmosphere. He clearly has a talent for making the dark and dirty seem purposeful and clear. He can really bring the frightening darkness into the light of reason, and in doing this to Gotham he opened the floodgates on insanity and cold reason to let them play on screen. Down to the nitty-gritty of the mo ...
