Legitimate Web sites are attacked all the time, not to steal any information on them, but in order to infect them so that they will serve malware to their users. I was involved in the diagnosing and recovery from one such attack against eWEEK earlier this year . Once a Web site is successfully attacked and starts serving malware, it's not long before this fact is picked up by the major blacklisting services. They feed this information to the Web browser and anti-malware vendors and then you find that users can't access your site, or at least are scared away from it. Dasient 's Web Anti-Malware (WAM) service, now in beta, addresses this problem. There are monitoring and diagnostic elements to the service, and these are in public beta. There is also a quarantining element, in the form of a Web server add-on, which is in private beta. Blacklist monitoring is a free part of the service. Dasient will monitor the public blacklists and notify you if your site shows up on them. For a fee their Premium Monitoring will actively and continuously monitor your site for malware being served. If found, you are notified with detailed diagnostics to help you shut it down. The quarantining software works with Premium Monitoring to block any malware found being served by the site.
