The Llano County sheriff’s office and the LCRA reported a rare Waterspout over Lake Buchanan on Tuesday night, said a meteorologist at the National Weather Service. Essentially small-scale tornadoes that form over water, waterspouts are common along the southeast U.S. coast, according to the National Weather Service’s tornado FAQ . “This type of phenomenon for Lake Buchanan, that’s a rare event,” said Robert Blaha, meteorologist and forecaster for the service. No damage had been reported, he said, and the Waterspout, which was seen at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, had dissipated that evening. Almost every day we have afternoon thunderstorms. But this one was and still is very impressive. I'm writing this iReport while the storm goes on all around me. We still have power, but the lighting strikes are countless and all over the place. Just a short will ago, before the rains came, you could clearly see what was the beginning stages of a Waterspout. And it was forming right over our heads. You can see how the clouds were in a swirling pattern and the suction of the up drafting winds was unbelievable. Never did get the chance to see it form completely because of the very hard rains and lighting made it impossible to take photos from outside. You can clearly see the tail of the spout as it pulled from all around it. Pretty crazy. Wind whipping and then changing directions as it passed overhead. The weather has been very hot lately. But as this storm boiled and the winds picked up, the temp drastically dropped to very cold. No mistaking what was happening. You knew that this was going to be bad. These shots were taken from my back yard overlooking the Escambia Bay. Just east of Pensacola, Florida. On 07/13/08 about 3:30pm ... Source: www.news4jax.com --- 45 days ago
