“Sales of Apple’s Macintosh computers have been growing much faster than PC sales overall, with many new Mac buyers switching from years of using Windows computers,” admits Walt Mossberg (allthingsd.com). And to help those who have made the switch, he’s assembled “a quick tip sheet explaining a few of the most common differences” between Mac OS Leopard and Windows. ...

I mean, what else can you say? In terms of features there isn’t really anything extraordinarily new. And speed? Pfft. There are issues with battery life, which is weird because this is Apple’s second time over. [news source] Tags: iPhone 3G, Walt MossbergShare This ...

Filed under: Cellphones Well this was bound to happen. Ahead of schedule, Walt Mossberg has turned his official review of the new iPhone 3G , and we've got the recap. On the whole, Walt stays mostly positive about the device; he likes the form factor (which he wants to stress really hasn't changed much), says the 3G speeds are a big improvement over EDGE (no kidding?), and informs us that the audio quality and phone reception are -- thankfully -- improved all around. Downsides? There are plenty. Mossberg takes issue with AT&T's new pricing policy, which he finds steep, says he only squeezed 4 hours and 27 minutes of talk time out of the battery, and gripes that you can only sync Exchange or personal calendars and contacts -- not both. If you're like us, you'll probably want to just read the whole thing. Too lazy? Check the video after the break. Update: David Pogue of the New York Times has also turned in a kinda-sorta review of the iPhone 3G, though it reads more like an overview of its features than a honest-to-goodness critique. He also makes passing reference to the GPS antenna being "too small" to function as a proper GPS, which makes roughly zero sense to us. Feel free to figure it out on your own. Update 2: Can't forget Ed Baig of USA Today, who says the new model is "worth the wait" (not to say we have any option at this point anyway, seeing how hard it is to find an original anywhere). He seemed to have trouble picking up ...

You had to know Rupert Murdoch's fledgling Fox Business Network would get something out of this whole Dow Jones/Wall Street Journal acquisition. Well, how about the WSJ's biggest star, personal tech guru Walt Mossberg? Mossberg is scheduled to appear weekly on Fox Business Network, meaning he will no longer be doing his "Personal Technology" segments on CNBC. Mossberg's last appearance on CNBC was last week, sources said. He'll start on FBN on Wednesday with an 11 a.m segment with morning co-anchors Dagen McDowell and Brian Sullivan. His regular weekly spot will be Thursdays at 11 a.m. ...

Rupert Murdoch's WSJ remains locked in a deal with CNBC, which prevents its reporters from going exclusive to News Corp ( NYSE: NWS ). cousin Fox Business News. But evidently they've found a loophole for star tech columnist Walt Mossberg. In an announcement, FBN says Mossberg, who writes for WSJ and its subsidiary AllThingsD , will debut on the still small channel tomorrow morning at 11:30 AM. From then on, he'll be appearing on Thursdays. That Journal reporters will eventually migrate over to FBN is in the when, not if category. But it's a coup to have Mossberg, who's got quite a bit of star power for a tech reporter, to make the switch early. What we don't know is what about The Journal's relationship with Mossberg allowed them to move him over. ...

I can't speak for the rest of the Journal, but I would note that some other Journal reporters are already doing FBN." ...

Sam Gustin knew it was only a matter of time. When Rupert Murdoch purchased Dow Jones , publisher of the Wall Street Journal , it was no secret that he hoped to leverage the paper's stable of business news reporters to boost Fox Business Network, his nascent competitor to CNBC. There was just one problem: CNBC and the Journal have an exclusive content partnership though 2012. Not so exclusive, it appears. Tomorrow, Walt Mossberg, the Journal's gadget guru, will launch a regular, weekly technology segment on Fox Business Network, Kevin Magee, executive vice president of Fox News, announced today . So how did FBN get around the CNBC/Journal agreement? There are loopholes, of course. (There are always loopholes.) "We can't just go ahead and use anything," Magee said at a conference earlier this year . "I believe the restrictions involve regularly-scheduled, branded segments. There is a carve-out for non-business news and there is a carve-out for breaking news." So tune in tomorrow to see Walt Mossberg discuss "non-business" or "breaking" news. Well, I guess that rules out any discussion of the new iPhone, set to go on sale on Friday. Perhaps he'll talk about the latest in the A-Rod divorce case.
