Everyone loves virtualization, right? Intel Macs running Windows in an OS X window? That's black magic, my friends, and very powerful magic, at that. There are two great virtualization products out there that most Mac users in the know are aware of: Parallels and VMware Fusion. Both are fine programs, but there is a third program that is sometimes overlooked: VirtualBox by Sun, which we've written about a couple of times . Sun just released version 2 of VirtualBox and they kept my favorite feature intact: the price. VirtualBox is free, so you really have no reason not to try it out (other than being happy with OS X and not needing another operating system in your life). In addition to keeping the low, low price, the fine folks at Sun added some new features : 64 bit guest OS support A revamped UI for Leopard Notifications for new versions And a host of other, far geekier new features like, 'Framework for collecting performance and resource usage data,' and 'Support for VHD disk images.' Say it with me, now: Ooooh. Ahhhhh. Primary category: Software Read - Comments (0) Copyright Mac Publishing LLC. This feed is for personal non-commercial use only. Do not re-post. The second version of xVM's VirtualBox desktop virtualization software has been released. VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware that is targeted for server, desktop and embedded use. This open-sourced software supports Solaris OS, OpenSolaris, Windows, Macintosh OS X, and Linux. Sun claims that it is finding traction, especially among Apple Macintosh users. According to the Steve Wilson, VP of xVM at Sun, "VirtualBox has deep integration with the Mac operating system's approach to networking." If you’re going to have virtual desktops, you might as well make them as flexible as possible. That’s apparently Sun’s thinking with the launch of the updated xVM VirtualBox, a free, open source package that supports Windows, Linux (both 64-bit), Mac and Solaris. It also features performance optimization coding for those of you working off AMD [...] ...
