Vince Young's injury does not appear to be serious. He slipped when dropping back yesterday on the wet field. The University of Texas has announced they will retire Vince Young's #10 jersey sometime during the upcoming school year. The actual date was not announced. This is a very cool honor for Young, and he is excited: "Man, I'm speechless," Young said. "I want to congratulate all of the UT legends who are having their jerseys retired in all of the sports. Perhaps I should post this on Music City Miracles instead, but I'm not really a Titans fan, so I'll just dump it here. Disclaimer: The below represents a VERY stretched comparison between Vince Young and two recent QB’s he’s often compared to. You can argue that we shouldn’t compare them, but the fact of the matter is that people do so I decided to look at some numbers to see if I could find any patterns. Furthermore, Vince has played only two seasons and has only one full year as a starter, further complicating comparisons. Lastly, I am well aware that one reason people compare them is because of their shared race. Be that as it may, the reason I’m even going to bother talking about this is because A) They are all considered “mobile” or “dual-threat” quarterbacks, B) Vick and VY, at least, came in with some hype after college, and C) McNair and Vince started off at the same franchise with Jeff Fisher. Let’s add the fact that McNair is Vince’s mentor. Those are the reasons, nothing more. Let’s leave race out of this. One last note before I move on: I dislike over-emphasizing statistics when evaluating players, as they can never take into account all aspects of the game. Fisher was giving a speech to NFL rookies, and after warning them about off the field issues, he makes an example out of Vince. One of Fisher's prime examples of unwanted embarrassment involved his most famous player — quarterback Vince Young. He never mentioned Young by name. He simply showed slides that appeared on two giant screens flanking the stage. The first showed Young posing with fellow participants in a panel discussion during last year's rookie symposium. "You recognize the second guy from the left?" Fisher said. "He was here last year, and you know what he talked about? He talked about off-the-field (behavior) ... how you guys have got to be really careful because ... one little cell phone camera that sends out (photos or video from) here and it ends up here. Reebok International Ltd ., the authentic outfitter of the National Football League , announced the launch of the VY Electrify football cleat and trainer - shoes named for Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young. The VY Electrify line is available nationwide at stores operated by Dick's Sporting Goods Inc ., a Pittsburgh-based retailer, Reebok said. (The Globe file photo above shows Young, left, getting wrapped up by the Patriots Rodney Harrison during a 2006 game.) The VY Electrify line consists of three styles of football cleats as well as the VY Preseason Trainer, Reebok said, and to support the line, Reebok and Dick's Sporting Goods are teaming up on a national marketing campaign that incorporates retail, direct mail, and a TV commercial described as a "retrospective focusing on Young's football career from Pop Warner through the pro ranks," Reebok said. A statement from Young was included in Reebok's press release. In the statement, Young said: "I'm happy to be working with Reebok and Dick's Sporting Goods to launch my new cleat. I know it takes a lot of faith in an athlete for a company to create a signature product, and I will do my best to make Reebok and Dick's Sporting Goods proud.
