Filed under: Cellphones If you've been scouring the dictionary for sour grapes, chances are you'll find Ivan Seidenberg 's picture. Verizon Communications' chairman and chief executive recently sat down for an interview with Financial Times , and while he spent the vast majority of his time boasting of just how amazing Verizon is, he did stop to remark about Cupertino ever so briefly. Granted, he did start off by admitting that Apple was a "great company," but that didn't stop him from pillorying the iPhone as well as Dear Leader himself. He actually accused the interviewer of "declaring [Apple] a winner before it had earned it on the field," suggesting that the iPhone wouldn't become a mass-market handset simply because the next iteration will be subsidized. He also stated that "Mr. Jobs had no monopoly on innovation," and took the conversation even further off track by blurting that "Steve Jobs eventually will get old." At least Keystone knows where to find its next bitter beer face, right? [Via The Inquirer , image courtesy of Pace , thanks Frank] Read  |  Permalink  |  Email this  |  Comments ...

See the guy in the picture there? His name is Ivan Seidenberg, and he’s the CEO and chairman (for now) of Verizon Wireless. Nothing wrong with that. What’s wrong in my book is throwing stones at the competition. Remember how Ballmer , Steve, did it last year. Going all berserk about how the iPhone will not be successful and all? Well apparently Mr. Ivan is a Ballmer kind of guy. He went on to declare to Britain’s Financial Times that he doesn’t think Apple is going to be successful with their new $200 device. Well Mr. Ivan, apparently you haven’t checked the news lately. Carriers are buzzing around Apple for a piece of that cake Steve Jobs has prepared and called the iPhone. Apple are going to sell anywhere from 15 to 18 million 3G iPhones. No matter if you like them or not you should respect them only for that. Furthermore, how about getting a decent device to compete against the iPhone and start a proper marketing campaign instead of go of declaring stuff like that. The kind of stuff people make fun of you get remembered for. Mr. Ivan goes on saying: In the long term, my view is that we’re the hunter. That’s the way I see it, and I’m trying to develop a new generation of hunters. Sure. You might need to refill that prescription that keeps a CEO from doing this. via Boing Boing Gadgets Related Posts Microsoft Disses the iPhone Again Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has struck out yet again, in their never ending rivalry with Apple, th ...

Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam updated residents of Little Rock, Ark., on Friday about the firm's impending merger with Alltel Communications, which is headquartered there. McAdam said that Little Rock would probably become home to a Verizon Wireless regional headquarters with about 100 employees, which is far less than the current 3,000 employees that Alltel has in the Arkansas town. While many executive and mid-management level positions at Alltel will vanish because of the proposed merger, McAdam said it would take at least a year or so to determine which positions would be eliminated. And he also said that there may be opportunities for some Alltel employees if they are willing to relocate to other cities where Verizon has openings. McAdam expects the Verizon/Alltel merger to close by year-end. Verizon’s CEO, Ivan Seidenberg is of the opinion that Steve Jobs will, indeed, age over time. Immediately after hearing this, I rushed over to Wikipedia to research this topic of “getting old” and I have concluded he is correct is his assessment of time and it’s effect on human beings. The article, written by Dan Moren, continues: Er, Ivan—may I call you Crazy Ivan?—I know you look all youthful and handsome, but let me just remind you that Steve’s actually nine years younger than you. Has Verizon one-upped Ponce de Léon and finally unearthed the Fountain of Youth? What do you expect from the company that passed up the iPhone? ∞ ...
