Eidos announced that it has inked a deal with Microsoft to release two additional chapters to Tomb Raider: Underworld , offering some six additional hours of raiding tombs, or at least what passes for tombs these days. The first bit of DLC, ominously titled Beneath the Ashes , will debut this Christmas, adding a new area and enemies as well as a continuation of Underworld 's story. The second, dubbed Lara's Shadow , promises "a new kind of playable character," leaving us wondering if Lara been drinking from the Phazon pool again? Eidos bills the new content as "exclusive" to Xbox Live Marketplace, though we'll at least try to feign surprise should similar content make its way to other platforms as well. Lara Croft will soon be embarking on her eighth major adventure when Tomb Raider: Underworld releases in November, but for Xbox 360 owners at least, the game won't necessarily end when the credits roll. Eidos has announced that they'll release two DLC packs exclusive for the 360 version, which all add new areas and even a new playable character, for a total of six additional hours of gameplay. The first "chapter," titled Beneath the Ashes, will release this Christmas, and will add a new area to explore with new enemies to battle against. The second chapter, titled Lara's Shadow, is even more intriguing -- it'll release in early 2009, and add "a new kind of playable character" that will create a "unique Tomb Raider experience." "We are constantly looking at ways to extend our franchises, whilst developing a deeper relationship with our players," said Sean Vesce, general manager for developer Crystal Dynamics. Xbox 360 owners can grab Tomb Raider: Underworld - Beneath the Ashes at Christmas with Tomb Raider: Underworld - Lara's Shadow following in early 2009. The new DLC may make it more difficult for gamers with multiple consoles to decide which version of Tomb Raider: Underworld to purchase. It's great for Eidos considering that the 360 will have exclusive DLC and the Wii version has controls tailored to the Wiimote. It will be interesting to see if Sony gets its own exclusive features or content adding more incentive for gamers to buy multiple copies for different special features. Eidos will also be offering a demo through XBL in October so keep an eye out for it. Tomb Raider: Underworld is due out in November in North America. Comment ...
