Filed under: Handsets , UTStarcom , EV-DO , CDMA UTStarcom are at CTIA with a few new products, including a prototype messaging device aptly named the TXT8010, the CDM7126c a CDMA clamshell, and an AWS modem, the UM100c. The CDM7126c -- the c stands for Cricket, there's also an m version but we'll let ya guess where it'll end up -- is low-end 800 / 1900 / AWS CDMA set that packs, Bluetooth, a 1.8-inch 65k display, into a very simple clean package. The TXT8010 in a messaging-centric device targeted at teens who care more about texting than talking. Featuring a slide out QWERTY keypad -- so nice -- Bluetooth, Openwave browser, a 2.2-inch 262k screen, SMS, MMS, and a 1.3 megapixel cam. The UM100c is a 800 / 1900 / AWS USB modem for Cricket and should find many friends with the new unlimited data offering they've started. Pantech's latest creation for UTStarcom has just reared its head on the FCC website. Pantech has dubbed this QWERTY-toting handset the Pantech Elvis, but the FCC label in the diagram clearly shows that it's the UTStarcom TXT8010. The UTStarcom TXT8010 is a dual-band (850/1900Mhz) CDMA handset with text messaging as its main draw. It's a rare [...] ...

I am using the UTStarcom F3000 with Broadvoice service every day. It works for the most part. The phone is also convenient when I travel. My problem is that the phone seems to time out after sitting for a while. It will show a connection to Broadvoice as if there is no problem yet when I call nothing happens, no ring, nada. The way around the problem is to cycle the WiFi connection and I am back in business. The firmware is at 5.90. Is there any possibility for UTStarcom to fix this problem through firmware? We have not had any upgrade in a long while. Thanks in advance ...

Well I sold my other Vonage devices, yes there is an extra step since the MAC address has to be switched from the sellers to the buyers account, but that's about it. Once that's done, then the buyer will be able to move his/her line to this WiFi Phone from their account on Vonage.com. Its that easy! Thanks for helping out with my sale! ...

I think Vonage has discontinued this item. If you do get a hold of it you can use it in place of your vonage adapter. Just remember you can only have one device per account in use at a time. A free alternative is Vonage Talk, use a laptop with internet connection, head set and microphone (or built in) when you travel. http://alpha.vonage.com Just a note this will take you to the Alpha Vonage site which means all these products are free to use, but are in a trial state, no phone support for them. ...

First International Telecom (Fitel) is partnering Motorola and UTStarcom to deploy a WiMAX network in northern Taiwan as part of the state-led M-Taiwan programme, Motorola says in a press release. The project is the US vendor’s third WiMAX contract won in Taiwan in the last eight months. Fitel received its WiMAX network operating licence covering northern Taiwan in July 2007, and plans to begin testing WiMAX base stations in the downtown area of Taipei by mid-2008. The M-Taiwan project is a government initiative to accelerate WiMAX development and create a city-wide broadband network to support consumer wireless broadband services. Charlie Wu, president of Fitel, said of the planned rollout: ‘The next generation personal wireless broadband service will enable rich media entertainment and high speed data applications to be delivered to our customers.’ Fitel currently provides mobile communications over a PHS network to approximately 1.5 million subscribers, says TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database. ...
