United Mine Workers of America in Monogaliao County West Virginia took a day off after the mine owner, Consol, apparently authorized an NRA film crew on the mining premises to film an anti-Obama piece featuring the mine workers. The mine workers' union had endorsed Obama without involving the workplace or the owner in anyway and objected to intrusion at work by the film crew. This event is discussed in more detail here. ... We've got several indications that the American Airlines UNIONS are growing even more impatient with the pace, or non-pace, of contract talks. First, several Transport Workers Union local presidents have written letters expressing frustration and unhappiness with the TWU international leadership as well as American. And the Allied Pilots Association is grousing about the National Mediation Board. Jim Iuliano, president of Local 562 in New York, started out a letter to TWU International President Jim Little by saying: "I've come to learn over the many months I spent negotiating that we lack leadership and direction." ... As the U.S. banking industry undergoes a historic upheaval, many people are considering credit UNIONS as a new place to park their money. While credit UNIONS may not offer the breadth of services available at a bank, a greater degree of individual attention may be what some customers are looking for amid a crisis. A key advantage is that credit UNIONS often offer more competitive rates, too, since they're tax-exempt, not-for-profit cooperatives. ... Source: www2.ljworld.com --- 6 days ago

The following was submitted by the Weston Board of Selectmen: The town of Weston’s employee UNIONS have voted overwhelmingly to join the state’s health insurance program, effective July 1, 2009. This decision is estimated to save the town more than $1.8 million and the employees and retirees more than $1.2 million in annual health insurance costs. The Board of Selectmen credits the UNIONS with initiating the discussion with the town about making the switch and working cooperatively toward an end result that will benefit both Weston taxpayers and employees. "This decision could not come at a better time," said selectmen Chairman Douglas Gillespie. "Given the annual pressures on the town’s budget and the current state of the economy, we need to find as many ways as possible to limit increases in the town’s costs. This will be a tremendous help." As part of the negotiations with employee UNIONS to join the Group Insurance Commission (GIC), the town agreed to increase its contribution from 80 percent of the premium cost to 85 percent. Because the rates are significantly lower, the town will save about 20 percent of its health insurance costs, even with the increase in contribution share. Employees and retired employees will experience higher out-of-pocket costs in the form of higher co-pays and deductibles. However, it is expected the vast majority of employees and retirees will also save money. Weston’s premium rates have been quite ... Find more results for UNIONS on RSSMicro.com |
