Come September and one recalls the horrors of terrorism when two aeroplanes crashed into the Twin Towers on the 9 th September 2001 and razed the huge structures to rubble and dust in the twinkling of the eye. There were thousands of casualties and the whole world stared in disbelief as the TV captured footage of a real life disaster in real time. It was an unedited version of one of the greatest terrorist strikes in the history of mankind...... That single incident triggered an outrage of unimaginable proportions and security was tightened as never before – while Air Marshals were introduced in international flights, the on-ground checking were intensified. The logic was to prevent recurrence of such strikes. Several substances were put in the ‘banned’ list of items that one earlier carried as cabin baggage because there was no telling what newer devilry the evil men would dream up. Even if one had to carry medicines, he had to possess adequate proof in the form of the prescription of the doctor. The logic is – better be safe than sorry. ... By Alan Caruba In the years prior to 9/11, if you lived in New Jersey as I do and drove into New York there was a sweeping curve of roadway leading into the Lincoln Tunnel that provides a view across the Hudson River of downtown Manhattan . One could see the Twin Towers from that vantage point and it always bespoke the financial power the nation, the greatness of our economic system, and our role in the world. Little wonder it was targeted, along with the Pentagon, for destruction by al Qaeda, the evil spawn of a seventh century religion whose name translates as “submission.” Though preceded by a number of violent attacks that included U.S. embassies and other manifestations of the Islamic mandate to make war until the entire world accepts Islam, it was 9/11 that demonstrated the demonic forces it has let loose in the world. There are more than a billion Muslims worldwide and most desire peace no less than the vast majority of mankind. Too many, however, are driven by their worst instincts, their sense of victimization, their romanticized view of Middle Eastern culture and history. It is instructive, therefore, to see how active leaders throughout the Middle East have become in their effort to hunt down and destroy al Qaeda. Awash in oil billions, the monarchies that control the region understand the threat to their suzerainty. In the meantime, the West continues its own largely secretive war. It is the reason President George W. Bush ... Source: www.boxxet.com --- 1 hour ago

I know you can't put lipstick on a pig, but I'm a veteran and I'm going to take that as free license to put up a post (with a controversial name) on how excited I am about seeing a lineup with Greg Oden and LaMarcus Aldridge. Seriously, the Blazers are going to be ridiculously good, right? I would probably even be excited by LMA and Channing Frye as our Twin Towers but instead we're faced with an even greater possibility. I'm taking up words at this point but I want to see what is up with the Junk Drawer today and I need the recs. ... Source: www.lincolncourier.com --- 31 days ago
In remembrance of 9/11, The Lincoln Heritage Museum at Lincoln College will exhibit a new signed print of the last watercolor painted of the New York Twin Towers by acclaimed artist Sacha Newley. The print will be placed near the piece of Tower One of the World Trade Center that the museum has on exhibit. The public is invited to visit the museum on Sept. 11 to recall the tragedy and to reflect how that day has changed the nation. The painting, entitled “Brooklyn Bridge,” is a cityscape with the distinctive Twin Towers prominently featured in the background. Newley painted it in the summer of 2001. His work is considered the last painting of the World Trade Center before the attacks. Newley personally signed a limited edition print of the painting and sent it to the museum. An accomplished New York City artist, Newley’s portraits have included such personalities as Christopher Reeve, Billy Wilder, Gore Vidal and Oliver Stone. In May 2008, Newley gave the Lincoln College Museum a rendering of a young Lincoln, called “The Head of Lincoln.” Historians and tourists alike have praised the painting. In addition to the new print, the museum’s Sept. 11 exhibit includes a three-foot piece of girder of Tower One of the World Trade Center; a flight jacket from a flight attendant who worked on that day; and several items donated by the Chan family of Peoria. The Chans lost their son Chip on Sept. 11, 2001. The family gave the ... Source: www.chieftain.com --- 26 days ago
