From the mouth of David Bevan, as overheard 4 days after this video’s premiere: “You know what this video actually feels like? It feels like Terminator 2 mixed with the Teenage Ninja Turtles Movie. You know how Shredder had that hang out for youths and they would come and breakdance and skateboard and play video games and do things that the Turtles would totally be into. Especially the cool colors. Shredder would come over and be like ‘mmm yes. foot soldiers.’ No one realized that they were just going to be recruited for this anti-Turtles army. What was shredder trying to accomplish anyway? We don’t even know. That’s the really scary thing about ninja Turtles: it’s not like shredder ever said let’s blow some shit up he just vaguely hated the Turtles by association because he hated Splinter. Wait, where was I? We never really ever got the impression that Shredder was actually a bad dude, like he was a villain but not really a bad dude. It wasn’t like he was giving drugs to the youths, he was simply creating a hang out for kids to keep them off the street and out of trouble. So I’m not sure the ninja Turtles were ever really like…good guys. They were just Turtles who happened to speak our language: cowabunga, babezilla, and they ate their pizza with two fingers. And that is our favorite food. What I’m saying is, Yeasayer is basically playing a show in Shredder’s youth hang out 30 years after the Turtles cleaned it out. They’re singing ... The Turtles were all over the place in the early ’90s. You couldn’t walk into a Kay Bee toy store or supermarket without seeing their faces and logo plastered all over some type of product. The Star 12 Mar 10; THE solution is obvious if we really want to save the Turtles from extinction, “WWF: Stop eating turtle eggs to save species from extinction” (The Star, March 11). Hit people where it hurts them most – their pockets. And if they value their physical freedom too, put them behind bars for an appreciable period. If we simply tell people to stop consuming eggs, will that actually make them do so? No, we are Malaysians. Sometimes our gastronomic pleasures overrule what is right or good for us. From an article on Underwatertimes.com: WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Caribbean Conservation Corporation (CCC), the world's oldest sea turtle research and protection group, today applauded the proposal by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to designate Northwest Atlantic loggerhead sea Turtles as an endangered species. Until 1998 Northwest Atlantic loggerheads were an Endangered Species Act success story. This proposed change in status from threatened to endangered recognizes the plight of rapidly declining Northwest Atlantic loggerheads, which nest on beaches from North Carolina to Texas. Florida accounts for over 90% of loggerhead nesting in the United States. Protection provided by the Endangered Species Act and implementation of regulations requiring Turtle Excluder Devices in shrimp nets to prevent the drowning of entrapped Turtles contributed to encouraging nesting increases from 1986 to 1998. Since that time, however, nesting throughout Florida has declined by nearly 50%. Nesting populations also are declining in the other states, for which long-term information is available. "This proposal is long overdue," said David Godfrey, CCC's Executive Director. Loggerheads face numerous threats onshore where they nest and at sea, but accidental capture, injury and death in commercial fisheries is perhaps the greatest peril to their survival today. ...
