YouTube has kicked off airing full TV shows with the addition of the Star Trek, MacGyver and Beverley 90210 episodes. To start there are 15, 50-minute episodes of each series which should make Trekkies, DIY action men and pampered, self-involved, whiny maggots happy, respectively. And the catch is? Well, there are two. Right now the full shows are US only - which sucks - and they will contain ads. The YouTube blogs says: As we test this new format, we also want to ensure that our partners have more options when it comes to advertising on their full-length TV shows. You may see in-stream video ads (including pre-, mid- and post-rolls) embedded in some of these episodes; this advertising format will only appear on premium content where you are most comfortable seeing such ads. In order to make this clear to you, we've labelled all full-length videos with a Film Strip symbol so you'll know exactly what kind of content you're choosing to watch and what ads you might see." Much as I take my hat off to MacGyver and his ability to end armed conflict with a paperclip, some tape and a can of WD-40, I'm not sure I'd want to watch reruns peppered with ads.-Martin Lynch youtube star Trek TV ...

HEROES actor Zachary Quinto says he's had tremendous support from Leonard Nimoy for his role as Spock in the new Star Trek movie - but was determined to make the portrayal his own. He was offered the role after mentioning his interest in Star Trek during media interviews although at one point it looked like he was unable to get out of Heroes and the studio auditioned other actors. Quinto, who plays baddie Sylar in Heroes, said: "With Sylar I am the actor who originated the role... but in many ways my experience of Star Trek is that I am creating another version of Spock. "There will never be another Leonard Nimoy - this is an incredible man and an incredible actor who endeared himself to millions because of his portrayal of this character. In a lot of way that takes the pressure off me, because I can't compete with that. "I simply have a relationship with this character based on my understanding of where he is and that's supported by the script. "So I don't really feel like I have a lot to prove. Leonard was very supportive of me from the very beginning." Speaking to SFX, he said he made sure Spock was his own experience, rather than just a copy of Nimoy's portrayal, and this was the only way to step into such an iconic role. "You have to acknowledge where it came from and Leonard was an enormous resource for me, incredibly generous with his time and his energy if ever I had a question or just wanted to talk about the experience ...
