So, we explored the relationship between alcohol intake and changes in physical health-related quality of life (HRQoL). As analyses of longitudinal HRQoL data excluding diseased participants produced overestimated results, we compared the methods with and without incorporating death and estimated valid physical HRQoL and its decline over time. Study subjects were women from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health, ages 70-75 years at Survey 1 in 1996 (n = 12,432), and were followed-up at 3 yearly intervals for 6 years. Alcohol consumption was divided into seven categories to identify harmful alcohol levels for older women. We measured Physical Component Score (PCS) of Medical Outcomes Study Short-Form (SF-36), and applied the transformed PCS incorporating death as a valid score to estimate HRQoL changes for each alcohol group with adjustment for potential confounders. A 31-year, retrospective analysis of our cutaneous lymphoma database, of 297 patients with mycosis fungoides (MF) and Sezary syndrome (SS), was undertaken to study long-term outcomes and identify clinical predictors of outcome in patients with advanced-stage disease (ASD; n=92) and large cell Transformation (LCT; n=22). Two-thirds of patients with ASD presented with de novo ASD. The median overall survival (OS) for ASD was five years with a 10-year predicted OS of 32%. Age at initial diagnosis (P=0.01), tumor stage (P=0.01) and clinical stage (P=0.0003) were found to be significant predictors of outcome. Patients who presented with de novo ASD demonstrated better outcomes that were not statistically significant than those with a prior diagnosis of early-stage MF (P=0.25). Large cell Transformation is pathologically characterised by the morphologic change of small-/medium-sized cells to large cells that comprise >25% of a MF lesion. The opening of the new Addison Public Library this week ends one construction project in the village’s Friendship Plaza, and begins another. Work is progressing on the old library facility as it changes tenants – from the library to DuPage High School District 88, which is using the building to relocate its administrative offices. “We are now on schedule to relocate our district offices there by mid-September,” District 88 Superintendent Steve Humphrey said. Right now, the construction focus has shifted from internal demolition of walls and fixtures to putting up drywall and converting the space into an office complex. “It’s taking some time to convert over, and we knew it would,” Humphrey said. The building is owned by the village and is being leased to the district. The project is part of the district’s $115 renovation plan for Addison Trail and Willowbrook high schools. The district broke ground on the project last month, which is expected to be competed by Fall 2010. Part of the project will be the demolition of the district offices, now located on the Willowbrook campus in Villa Park, and moving them to the Addison location. District officials said it will free up space for classrooms and other facility upgrades at Willowbrook. The project is being paid for by a tax hike that was approved by voters in Spring 2007.
