The Moundridge Wildcats won the Canton-Galva Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday. In pool play, Moundridge downed Canton-Galva 25-10, 25-14, Sunrise Christian Academy 25-14, 25-14 and Hesston 25-14, 27-25. In the semfinals, Moundridge downed the Wichita Home School 25-17, 25-17. In the finals, Moundridge downed Hillsboro 22-25, 25-11, 25-19. Hillsboro downed Little River 25-14, 25-17, lost to Halstead 25-18, 13-25, 25-17 and beat Wichita Home School 25-21, 25-20. Hesston finished third. “We were up and down all day during the tournament,” Hesston coach Jason Peters said. “There were moments where we played well enough to beat anyone, and other times where we looked like a completely different team.” Hesston downed Sunrise Christian Academy 23-25, 25-18, 25-16 and Canton-Galva 25-20, 25-18 in pool play. “Against Sunrise, we started out slow and never got any momentum going in the first game,” Peters said. “They have a solid team that played good defense and kept the ball in play without making a lot of errors. We were more aggressive in the second and third games, and played with more intensity, which helped us get out to an early lead and keep it. “Canton-Galva’s record is deceiving, and played us tough in both games.
