Dead or Alive series creator and former Team Ninja chief Tomonobu Itagaki presented more evidence against former employer Tecmo in their on-going legal battle. This is the second hearing for the case that Itagaki filed for what he calls unpaid wages and bonuses. The primary evidence presented in a Japanese court was a copy of a contract dated March 4th, 2005 which promises the developer he would get special incentives for completing the game. Itagaki also claims that the same contract entitles him to 6.66 percent of the product's total profits. "I am prepared to reveal this evidence as the need arises for the sake of greater justice," said Itagaki when asked to comment on the matter. He added "it is clear that this self-centered behavior by Tecmo Co. Ltd. and its president Yoshimi Yasuda, from the filing of the petition to its subsequent withdrawal, was an attempt to increase my own personal burden in both time and funds needed to combat the petition." Also presented was a voice recording and a transcript of it between Itagaki and Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda. If the evidence is to be believed, then Tecmo could be in hot water. Yoshimi allegedly told Itagaki "the board of directors did vote on it and a ringi (a document) was signed." Itagaki has raised his demands from US 1.3 million to a total of US 1.5 million. We'll keep you posted for more on this legal saga. Related articles: Tecmo on lawsuits issue: Please handle with care, mas ...

Yesterday , Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya didn't exactly have kind words for Ninja Gaiden . They weren't mean per se, they just weren't kind. Kamiya said he's "not interested" in NG so perhaps you could say he is indifferent . In the same issue of EGM , former Team Ninja lead ninja Tomonobu Itagaki has this to say about Kamiya and his game Okami : My daughter tried playing Okami , and she got sick of it pretty quickly-and I got pretty sick of it, too. And I'm not out to make this an Okami bashing session or anything — I'm just saying that it didn't feel like it had much of a spirit. It's unique, but it's not a powerful fighter plane... So I heard Kamiya said something about the action genre not moving forward in eight years. Can you tell me more about that? Apparently, Kamiya said the action genre hasn't moved forward since the release of the first Devil May Cry . To which Itagaki replied: Was he asleep for eight years? ...There are two types of people out there who like to make controversial, splashy comments. There are those who are truly outspoken, and there are those who are just trying to cover up for there weaknesses. We have a saying here in Japan — "the weaker dog barks more" — and I sincerely also like to remind him to make sure to stay awake for the next years. Knives out! Oh, and as a special bonus, Itagaki also offered sound-bytes on why he makes Xbox 360 games: First of al, I think that the PS3 was an attempt b ...

Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda will resign from his head leadership role at the Japanese development firm on September 1st, citing "personal reasons" for the departure, reports Kotaku. Yasuda's resignation caps off a recent string of business woes for the company that include the departure of Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki, and litigation leveled at the firm by numerous disgruntled former employees. Both Itagaki's departure and the lawsuit leveled at Tecmo by the unhappy former employees implicate Yasuda directly. If the claims of either case are proven true, Yasuda would be culpable for widespread fraud and inhumane business practices. Image courtesy Tecmo Troubled Tecmo President Resigns! Tecmo's premier game design group Team Ninja will debut a game in a brand-new genre next year, following the high-profile resignation of its leader Tomonobu Itagaki. Speaking to Bloomberg, Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda clarified the post-Itagaki future of the Ninja Gaiden team. "'New game, new genre, new geographical area, new leader' are our four keywords," he said. Yasuda said the new game, to be announced and released in 2009, would be aimed squarely at the Western market, which he called more "bullish" than Tecmo's native Japan. The game will be in a new genre that the company has never before explored, meaning not martial arts, survival horror, or third-person action. (FPS, maybe?) The new project will be helmed by remaining Team Ninja members Zin Hasegawa and Yosuke Hayashi. Tecmo to Itagaki: You can't quit -- you're fired. Wired magazine contributing editor Brian Ashcraft has been going through piles of Japanese-language court filings, digging up new dirt on the lawsuit between Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki and his former company Tecmo and reporting it on Kotaku. For one, Ashcraft writes, Tecmo fired the outspoken game designer days after he announced his intention to quit. In response, Itagaki raised the amount he is suing for from about $1.38 million to $1.53 million, adding the wages he would have earned had he stayed on through the end of June.   More new info: Tecmo withdrew the gag order request that it filed against Itagaki before it could be decided on in court. Even weirder, another former Tecmo employee claims that he secretly taped a conversation with the company's president in which he reportedly admits the legitimacy of the bonus plan under which Itagaki claims he is owed a million bucks plus -- then calls the game director a "money-grubber." Tecmo has been in pretty hot waters for the past couple of months now. Out of the pan, into the fire, ya? The whole ordeal with Tomonobu Itagaki leaving Team Ninja wrought some other consequences for Tecmo. And now, Tecmo has announced that their current president, Yoshimi Yasuda, will be resigning. Some of you may remember Yoshimi Yasuda. When Itagaki slapped a court case on Tecmo, he singled out Yasuda, saying the president had been committing unlawful acts against him - namely, not getting paid the full amount supposedly agreed upon after finishing Dead or Alive 4 . On top of that, there's also been some grumbling from other Tecmo employees, saying that Yasuda has been implementing unfair business practices such as unpaid overtime hours, falsified contracts, etc. According to Tecmo's board of directors, Yasuda's resignation - which was done for "personal reasons" - has now been accepted. The new president will be the chairman of the Tecmo board of directors, Yasuharu Kakihara, and will be starting his new post on September 1. Today, Tecmo Co. Ltd. announced that Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda will resign. The Board of Directors accepted Yasuda's resignation — which was for "personal reasons". Starting September 1st, Chairman of the Board Yasuharu Kakihara will assume the position of Tecmo's president. Yasuda has been at the center of the Itagaki vs. Tecmo legal suit. Dead or Alive creator Tomonobu Itagaki is suing for unpaid DoA 4 wages. These were "special incentive" wages that Itagaki claims were agreed to by the former Tecmo president and the board of directors, but the current president is claiming these "special incentive" wages were made single-handedly by the former president and not approved by the Tecmo board. As we posted earlier, Itagaki left Tecmo and filed suit for unpaid bonuses. As Itagaki stated then, "President Yoshimi Yasuda chose not only to violate this agreement, but also turned defiant, telling me 'if you are dissatisfied with the decision not to pay the bonuses, either quit the company or sue it.'" During the quote proceedings, evidence was presented, such as this secret audio tape that we broke, which contained statements by Yasuda that seemed in direct conflict with his court claim that this "special incentives" proposal was made single-handedly by the former president and not approved by the Tecmo board. The recording helps support Itagaki's claim that his special incentive bonus was approved by Tecmo's former president and th ...

Filed under: Culture , Business Former head of Tecmo's Team Ninja and leather aficionado, Tomonobu Itagaki , is proving himself to be quite the legal eagle hawk whatever bird a ninja might keep as a pet in his ongoing lawsuit against his old employer. In addition to upping his claim for damages from 148 million yen ($1.3 million) to 164m yen ($1.6m) for bonuses and salary not paid, the Dead or Alive creator delivered a blow to accusations by Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda that he was never promised bonuses in the first place. The evidence: an audio recording of Yasuda specifically stating that a legal document known as a ringi , which outlined the contested bonus plan, had in fact been approved by Tecmo's board of directors. Take that! If that didn't sting, Itagaki said (in what we're guessing was a stern voice): "I am prepared to reveal this evidence as the need arises for the sake of greater justice." Hear that? Greater justice . Everything the guy does is intense .
