There’s been a whole lot written about why calling an online video “viral” doesn’t make it such— Scott Monty did an excellent take on it a few weeks back. But what I wanted to point out here is that those videos that do go “viral” often aren’t what the ad industry’s narrow aesthetic would define as “good.” Or to put it another way, as a former boss of mine told me when I was first starting out: “There’s a reason America’s Funniest Home Videos is a top 10 show.” Hence the proliferation of shocked rodents, sneezing ursines, adorable human babies and other lowbrow highlights. And that really clever ad-like video that shows off your product? Well, chances are, no one’s going to want to pass it along. Why? Because while it’s a really clever product demonstration and all… no one cares. It’s the whole Prom King Brand thing. People don’t really want to hear from low interest brands unless someone’s screaming bloody murder (e.g. Whopper Freakout ) or cute animals are doing something extra adorable. I mean they’ll watch it if it’s dropped in front of them during a TV show, but only ad geeks are going to be passing on a really clever Wisk laundry detergent demo to their friends. Even if it’s shot on a hand held camera and features funny audience reaction shots. Caveat emptor. ... Source: multichannelmerchant.com --- 28 days ago

Written by dcairns Thanks to producer pal Nigel Smith for the loan of the Futurama DVD-movie thing, BENDER'S BIG SCORE! MILTON — Toads, roads, public events and new developments were among the issues raised Wednesday night at the Milton Borough Council meeting. The state has a reputation for dragging its feet when driving to close a project, but not in this case. Borough manager Chuck Beck reported the Fish and Boat Commission has completed its search for the endangered eastern spadefoot Toad near the Milton Regional Sewer Authority. The authority is planning some major improvement projects. With the endangered amphibian known to reside in nearby marshy areas, the sewer authority was required to look for evidence of the Toad before moving forward with its building plans. “(The state) said it’s a non-issue,” Beck said. At the end of the meeting, councilman Mark Shearer thanked state lawmakers for lighting a fire under the inspection process. The process took two weeks, and Beck said originally a report wasn’t even expected until October. “Rep. Merle Phillips and Sen. John Gordner pulled strings to kill the Toad issue on this project,” Shearer said. The rest of council, which gave a round of applause, agreed it was proud the situation was handled expeditiously. They are all looking forward to the “revolutionary” projects coming down the pike at the MRSA. The plant plans to increase its efficiency and go “green” in the coming years. Shearer added it’s a chance to retain and add jobs. The eastern spadefoot Toad, as many will recall, was discovered a co ...
