NEW YORK --- Good morning from Yankee Stadium. It's a beautiful day in the Bronx, where the Sox will attempt sweep this three-game set against the Yankees in their final visit to the (queue the late John Facenda's voice of God here) House That Ruth Built. Sox manager Terry Francona, showing little if any hangover from Wednesday night's 11-3 thrashing of the Yankees, held his customary pre-game meeting with the media and gave updates on Sean Casey, J.D. Drew, Mike Lowell and offered his take on the implementation of instant replay. Francona reported that Sean Casey (stiff neck) was better and would be examined in Boston Friday when the team returns to Fenway Park to host the Chicago White Sox. He also said that J.D. Drew, who Tuesday night was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain, had returned to Boston ahead of the team and also was expected to be examined. Francona said there remained the possibility that Drew could get an epidural injection. Mark Kotsay, acquired Wednesday from the Atlanta Braves, was penciled in at right field, which allowed for Coco Crisp to take a day off. On the Lowell front, Francona said the third basemen's oblique tested well after Lowell did some hitting off a tee Wednesday. ``He's already complaining [to get back in the lineup], which is good,'' Francona said. With instant replay set to be implemented in three different series Wednesday night at Wrigley Field in Chicago, McAfee Colise ... Source: www.npr.org --- 16 days ago

Most of the rock generation is familiar with Tito Puente through Santana's cover of "Oye Como Va" and his appearance in The Mambo Kings . By venturing closer to the source, they will discover what Latin jazz fans have known for years: Puente's intoxicating mix of Big Band jazz and Latin music creates Mambo madness at its finest. Tito Puente is credited with fusing Cuban charangas with Big Band swing and Bop. Puente always had one eye on dance fans and indeed, his music puts the ghost of St. Vitus in your body. But his other eye was planted on jazz fans -- he loved arranging for composers such as Horace Silver and his soulmate Dizzy Gillespie. There are many similarities between Puente and Diz's various big bands -- chief among them the spirit of global brotherhood that they celebrate. But Tito Puente never let his jazz side distract from his music's mass popularity; when the Big Band era was long gone, Puente not only kept his band together but saw it thrive. With more than a hundred albums to his credit, at least one or two should be a part of every collection. - Nick Dedina ... Source: pluralsight.com --- 19 days ago
PDC is increasingly taking up my time, so I've got LA on the brain. Having lived in LA for 39 years before joining the firm, I use PDC as an opportunity to visit my favorite haunts. My first stop will be Tito's Tacos . Every time I go to LA (PDC or not), I go straight from LAX to Tito's. For the PDC trips, I take as many people from my flight as possible. My recommendation is some combination of Tacos (with cheese) and Tostadas. Skip the burritos - way too much food and you don't get that magical super-fresh lettuce/cheese combo happening. ... from MMAFiend : A few days ago Tito sat down with PunchDrunkGamer.com and had some choice words for Rampage Jackson's former trainer and mentor, Juanito Ibarra: "Let me explain this to you because it really pisses me off that Ibarra has done what he has done, he is a thief," said Ortiz. "I have been running training camps for seven years up in Big Bear California and the most that my camp has cost a fighter to attend is $35,000. Ibarra was charging Jackson $65,000 to go to Big Bear. I don’t understand that! He was being very disrespectful and taking advantage of Rampage. Including travel, training partners, food and lodging, the most ever was $35,000, maybe if you flew in more trainers… 40K. Where did that extra money go that Ibarra was charging? Rampage is really pissed and he feels betrayed that he was taken advantage of and I couldn’t agree more with him. I don’t care if Juanito reads this or hears about it anywhere, he already knows that he is blackballed. I don’t care who you are; fighters work very hard for the money they earn and I feel slighted for even knowing Juanito." It has been weeks since Ibarra and Jackson split, and we still do not know the full story of what went on between the two of them that caused things to go sour. So far this is the most detailed information on the subject we have gotten, and it vibes with the majority of the speculation around the situation: that Rampage was bilked out of money by Juanito, w ... By Sasha Forbes 05 September 2008 Members of the public and economists have voiced their opinions over the 28 percent pay increase given to Reserve Bank Governor Tito Mboweni. The increase will bring Mboweni’s pay package to three-million-seven-hundred-and-ninty-six-rand. Business Day reports that compare to the previous three years, when Mboweni’s pay rise was set below the upper limit of inflation target, partly at his insistence to set an example for rest of the country. Bank directors say that Mboweni’s salary, which included pension an medical aid, reflects structural adjustments after an independent review of executive pay. FEDUSA has come out sronly against the pay rise. General Secretary Dennis George says that “FEDUSA strongly wants to condemn the Governor of the Reserve Bank increase of 28 percent as the governor has gone around preaching to everyone to tighten their and workers must moderate wage demands, only to find that the Governor has gone a year before his contract is to come an end has put a 28 percent increase on his pay.” Bush Radio 89.5fm -- The Mother of Community Radio in Africa ...
