Graeme Hick: the great enigma © Getty Images For more than two decades now, Graeme Hick has tormented county attacks all across England. On his retirement, the tributes are led by the Independent's Angus Fraser and the Telegraph's Derek Pringle, two bowlers who have first-hand experience of Hick's batting expertise. And in the Guardian , David Foot recalls one of Hick's totemic innings - the unbeaten 405 in 1988 - and wonders how Hick turned out to be a relative failure on the international stage. Those of us privileged to watch him in his best years have marvelled at the risible ease with which he has played the game. At country level, he has made so many contemporaries look ordinary. His bat was broader than anyone else's. Nothing seemed to get past it. There was always a respect for orthodoxy; with an hypnotic efficiency he took on the bowlers in rotation. The strokes were always clean. For a big man, he was imposing rather than handsome in execution. ...

Ive searched for threads and can't seem to find any. I've had a rough couple days here. The basics: I'm running 10.5.4, off an intel pro. I have 2 external drives for backup and media files. I was using one of them (call it drive #1) with Silverkeeper until Time Machine was out and ready to use. I then got another drive (#2). I chained the new 2nd drive off of #1 and set the new drive to work as the timemachine one. In retrospect I should have told the new drive to be a Time Machine for the 1st older drive that was using silverkeeper. Instead, I told the new drive to back up my HD. Since I did this, all of my new music projects have been overwritten. I understand that I should have told the new drive to back up the older one instead of my HD, but why on earth would the files that I had been working on since I got the new drive just be gone??? They were all there before I plugged in the new drive to start Time Machine. I did a full back up of my HD, came back a few hours later and the 6 specific folders are gone. Silverkeeper must have done something? any help is appreciated. thanks ...

Recently I had the opportunity to go through a series of tests revolving around the use of a raw disk or dedicated logical unit number (LUN) to a virtual Machine. I think that any virtualization administrator should go through the drill. The basic principle is to seamlessly move storage on a storage area network (SAN) [...] ...

I've wanted a Time axis for the web for, well, for ever (OK, since 2003 when I got the idea). Google has given us at least one point on that axis, 2001. What a nutty Time. Check out a vanity search for me back then. This is before Searchblog,... ...

clipped by: papananook Clip Source: www.darkroastedblend.com Well, soon you might start hearing about them, as the world's most powerful particle accelerator becomes functional this spring - unleashing forces, capable of distorting not only space (just like gravity distorts space around Earth), but also Time . CERN's Large Hadron Collider is set to become the very first Time Machine in history. According to the research published by Irina Arefieva and Igor Volovich, "in general relativity, a Time-like curve in space-Time will run from past to future. But in some space-times the curves can intersect themselves, giving a closed-like curve, which is interpreted as a Time Machine - which suggests the possibility of Time travel " Here are some quick facts: - 20-year work-in-progress - A team of 7,000 physicists from more than 80 nations - 27 kilometers in circumference, 175 meters underground - facilitating head-on collision of protons, traveling very near the speed-of-light - each tunnel is big enough to run a train through it. - temperat ...

Meet Chuffy the mouse and his cyborg guinea pig Time Machine. This taxidermy creation is a BoingBoing find, and it captures the best of a new scifi subgenre I hope will soon catch on: Techie Cutie Creepy. Has Pokemon already been there? Basically all I want is something that brings together my freakish addiction to Cute Overload with the weirdness of dead animal parts converted into Time machines. Here you can see a closeup of Chuffy, who even has a name tag and hat. Where could they be going? The Cuteness Dimension? To defeat the pretender to the throne of the Cuteocracy?
