I just purchased a speedtouch ST516 v6 modem cause I want to move to friendlier ISPs. I currently have 7MBps service going strong, but somehow I have a feeling that after I move from Bell they will take my speed down way below 5Mbps. I want to use this new modem and take a log of the connection as a proof in case that it's needed. Does anyone know how I need to set it up for this task? so that it's logs can be considered acceptable if need be. Thanks. PS: I didn't even plug it yet. I want to start clean from scratch and have the appropriate settings in place. ...

Is anyone using one of these I just got one yesterday from Comcast as part of adding Digital Voice to my Internet and Cable service. In looking at the forum here and Google, I see a few references to the DHG535 but none to the DHG536. Just wondering what the differences might be between the two. So far (first 24 hours) I've not had any issues with the modem and it does still respond to the 192.168.100.1 address just as my previous SB5100 did. ...

Abstract   The resultant local Seebeck coefficient α R (= α S − α T ) at the interface of a thermoelement has not yet been measured, although it is an important factor governing the thermoelectric efficiency, where α S is the local Seebeck coefficient and α T is the one caused by the Thomson effect. It is shown in this paper that α S , α T , and α R of the p - and n -type Cu/Bi–Te/Cu composites are obtained analytically and experimentally on the assumption that the local temperature of the composite on which the temperature difference Δ T is imposed varies linearly with changes in position along the composite. They were indeed estimated as a function of position from the local experimental data of R ,Δ I ,Δ T , and V generated by applying an additional current of ± I to the composite, where R is the electrical resistance and Δ I is a current generated by the composite. As a result, it was found that the absolute values of α S at the hot interface of the p - and n -type composites are approximately 1.5 and 1.4 times higher than their lowest values in the middle region of the composite, respectively, while those of α T are less than 8% of α S all over the composite and are so small that the relation α R ≈ α S can be held. We thus succeeded in measuring α R at the interfaces of the composite. "I think that's the point at which you're all meant to clap." Tina Gaudoin, editor in chief of WSJ. , stood on stage at the Morgan Library on East 36th this morning. She had just presented the first issue of The Wall Street Journal 's luxury insert, which debuts in this Saturday's edition of the paper. The assembled crowd of journalists could be forgiven for not applauding as the cover and several pages of the magazine were revealed from beneath an awkwardly-draped scrim. They were too busy enjoying breakfast, which consisted parfait, cantaloupe with a sprig of mint, salmon filet, and a filo-crusted omelet topped with caviar.  read more » ...

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that is in some way relevant to their recently published books. Death and mortality are surprisingly common themes in popular music, and Graeme Thomson explores these themes in I Shot a Man in Reno: A History of Death by Murder, Suicide, Fire, Flood, Drugs, Disease, and General Misadventure, As Related in Popular Song , a book that music fans will cherish not only for its lists of songs and cultural insights but also for the discussions it is sure to spawn over which songs were left out of the book. Booklist wrote of the book: “This isn’t a history; it’s a commentary. Damned good one, too, by a journalist who knows his stuff and struts it… Enthralling from the first page, he guarantees re-readers.” In his own words, here is Graeme Thomson's Book Notes essay for his debut novel, I Shot a Man in Reno: A History of Death by Murder, Suicide, Fire, Flood, Drugs, Disease, and General Misadventure, As Related in Popular Song : I wrote I Shot a Man in Reno not because, as some people think, I’m obsessed by death, but because I’m obsessed by music and I’m always looking for ways to write about it from a new angle, preferably one that intersects with the wider world. Death proved a rich seam. The first eight chapters in the book are arranged thematically, covering everything from murder to depictions of the afterlife, and my song-mix follows suit. The list covers the songs that ...
