In total, 159 patients with stage III and IV NSCLC were retrospectively enrolled. Immunohistochemistry was performed to evaluate the expression of MMP-7, apoptosis-related proteins Bcl-2, Bax, Fas and FasL and the Ki-67 proliferation marker. The TUNEL (Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick-end labeling) method was performed to investigate tumor apoptosis. Ninety carcinomas (56.6%) were identified as high expression of MMP-7. Overexpression of MMP-7 was more frequent in adenocarcinomas than in squamous cell carcinomas (P = 0.032). The expression of MMP-7 was positively related with Ki-67 index and Bcl-2, but not apoptosis index. I’m sure there are a bunch of you out there scratching your heads and wondering just who Wendy Richard is. If you’re a fan of Britcoms (like I am), you’ll recognize the actress who played the ditzy but lovable Miss Brahms in the classic BBC comedy, Are You Being Served? It was revealed that she plans to marry for the fourth time after suffering a recurrence of the Cancer that she’s already beaten twice: The star learned that the disease had returned in January during a regular check up. She has survived two bouts of breast Cancer. Cancer cells were discovered in her left armpit and the drugs she was given to treat them only made her condition worse. In recent months doctors discovered the Cancer had spread to her right kidney and bones. Initially, her oncologist told her she had ’several useful years ahead’. But since then, her condition has deteriorated and her future is now uncertain. She said: ‘Twice I’ve had breast Cancer but this is different. It’s more aggressive this time, unfortunately and has spread to the top of my spine and left ribs. ‘It has come as a terrible shock and you just get so fed up. FORMER Eastenders favourite, Wendy Richard, is set to marry her long term partner, John Burns, after receiving news from doctors that she has Terminal Cancer. Wendy, who played Pauline Fowler in the BBC1 soap for 20 years, has beaten breast Cancer twice before but at a routine check in January doctors found the disease had returned and spread. Cancer cells were discovered in her left armpit and the drugs she was given to treat them apparently only made the condition worse. In recent months doctors have also discovered the disease has spread to her right kidney and into her bones. Now the actress, 65, has pledged to marry partner John, who is 20 years her junior, in a civil ceremony with a reception at a London hotel attended by around 60 family members and close friends. The couple, who have been together for 13 years, had planned to wed but have decided to bring the marriage forward because of Wendy's illness. She is due to start chemotherapy on October 13. She has told how sometimes the pain from the Cancer has been unbearable and how she has to take 12 tablets a day and have an injection in her stomach every day. Doctors have admitted to her a hormonal imbalance has made her condition worse while she accepts years of heavy smoking probably haven't helped either.
