The coalition, called the Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism Criteria, received input from 2,500 conservationists, industry leaders, governmental authorities and U.N. bodies, Turner said. The resulting criteria focus on four aspects of sustainability: maximizing tourism’s social and economic benefits to local communities, reducing negative impacts on cultural heritage, reducing harm to local environments and planning for sustainability. A lawyer for Texas car dealer David McDavid on Thursday called Turner Broadcasting System's sale of the Atlanta Hawks, Thrashers and rights to Philips Arena an "inside deal" that favored relatives of Ted Turner, the company's legendary founder. Lamar Mixson said Turner officials engaged in "secret whirlwind negotiations" with an eight-man group that included the son and son-in-law of Ted Turner. Turner sold the teams to that group, known as the Atlanta Spirit, for $250 million five years ago. Mixson's remarks kicked off opening statements in the trial of a $500 million lawsuit by McDavid against TBS. McDavid had been negotiating with Turner for months to buy the teams for a higher price and that he was cheated out of the purchase. ...

Turner Broadcasting System CEO Phil Kent testified Friday there was never a firm deal to sell 85 percent of the Atlanta Hawks, Thrashers and Philips Arena operating rights to Texas businessman David McDavid. Kent was on the stand in the second day of court arguments over McDavid's $500 million breach-of-contract lawsuit against the company.
