The Stars skated this morning in Frisco, and are expected to bring out these lines tonight against Colorado at AAC. Morrow-Ribeiro-Brunnstrom Neal-Petersen-Avery Barch-Lundqvist-Sawada Benn-Gagnon-Tukonen Pratt-Robidas Fistric Daley Grossman-Vishnevskiy Marty Turco should be in goal. Colorado played its preseason opener Wednesday in Denver, and lost a 4-3 shootout game to LA. Ryan Smyth had two goals in that game, and most of the stud Avalanche players (Sakic, Tucker, Liles, Clark, Laperriere, Hejduk, Stastny, Foote, Smyth, Budaj) were in the lineup. The expectation is Colorado will have a much thinner lineup tonight (Wolski, Hannan, Salei, Svatos, Leipold) , although Andrew Raycroft is expected to get the start in goal. Former Stars prospect Marty Sertich might also play in this game. I can't find any television or radio for this game, but I'll be blogging here. You can also again check real time scoring on the NHL.com. Remember, bring canned goods between 5-8 p.m. to any one of the four stations outside the arena, and you get two free vouchers for tickets to any preseason game. You can use the voucher for tonight's game. ... Source: blogs.denverpost.com --- 16 days ago
Paul Stastny is going to be fine. Although he didn’t skate today, he’s got nothing worse than a bruised right shoulder and he might skate on his own Monday. He will not play in Monday’s Burgundy-White scrimmage at the Air Force Academy, however. Neither will Wojtek Wolski (foot) and Marek Svatos (knee rehab). Wolski’s injury [...] ... With this bit of news, Colorado's future activity during the off-season becomes a bit foggier. It seems pretty clear that Svatos is probably being offered less than he thinks he deserves, but unless that number is under two million, I really don't think he has a case. When you consider Svatos has never played more than 66 games in any of three pro seasons and only had 37 points in 62 games ... Written by Shane Giroux(noreply@blogger.com) One thing I found amusing in TSN's news article -aside from the typo in the headline - was a quote from Francois Giguere: Marek Svatos has been a key ingredient to our success the last few years," said Avalanche Executive Vice President and General Manager Francois Giguere in a statement. Written by noreply@blogger.com (Joe @ MHH) The rest of the offense is pretty young. Paul Stastny, one of the four or five best young players in the entire NHL, is back and will lead the second line. The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced the signing of forward Marek Svatos to a two-year contract, avoiding an arbitration hearing scheduled for today. “Marek Svatos has been a key ingredient to our success the last few years,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President and General Manager Francois Giguere. “He’s scored many big goals for this club and we expect him to be a strong force for us again this season.” Svatos Under Contract with Avs Despite all of his injuries, (Svatos hasn't played more than 66 games in the past three seasons) Marek Svatos has been one of the best goal scorers that the Colorado Avalanche has ever had. If he can somehow stay healthy for an entire 82-game season, Svatos has 30, maybe even 40-goal potential if he's playing on a line with Sakic or Stastny. And with the departure of Andrew Brunette, the idea of Svatos as a top-6 forward is almost a certainty. With a two-year, 4.1 million dollar contract, the signing still leaves the Avs with a little over 10 million to sign Joe Sakic and retain some flexibility for any additional moves. ... by Jes Quite honestly, I have been surprised at how well Slovak forward Marek Svatos has done in his NHL career to date. Given that he was taken in the 7th round of the 2001 draft, I'm not the only one. Yes, Svatos tore through the WHL as a member of the Kootenay Ice, but the dude is smaller than a leprechaun (5'10", my shiny metal ass!) and had serious injury problems before he ever hit the NHL ice surface. I never felt that Svatos would become an NHL regular given his shortcomings and brittleness. That said, one could also view Svatos as a bit of a disappointment, given the fact that his production hasn't come close to the numbers he put up in his rookie season. A few things are obvious ... 1. Svatos is, and will always be, a big injury risk. Not only does Svatos miss at least 15-20 games per season, but he is often playing at far less than 100%, limiting his effectiveness. 2. 2006-07 was the aberration, simply because his shot percentage was woefully low. Svatos is an excellent shooter and has a nose for the net. 3. Svatos' playmaking abilities still suck. 4. For a guy who can score 25-30 goals, Svatos gets very little ice time. Most goal scorers get at least 15 minutes a game. Now that the Avs have signed the stunted Slovak to a 2-year contract , what can we expect from the guy? For one thing, I don't see Svatos getting a whole lot more ice time than he's been getting. Yes, Hejduk is declining and aging, but the Avs have quite a few ...
