Gov. Ted Strickland joked today that he may be asked to speak at "7:30 a.m. for five minutes" at next week's Democratic National Convention, but the governor isn't backing away from comments that Barack Obama needs to get more specific about the economy in Ohio. Strickland has confirmed that the Obama campaign has asked him to speak, along with other Dmeocratic governors, on the second day of the convention (Aug. 26). His topic: the economy. Over the weekend, Strickland was quoted in a New York Times story as saying about Obama: "I particularly hope he strengthens his economic message — even Senator Obama can speak more clearly and specifically about the kitchen-table, bread-and-butter issues like high energy costs. It’s fine to tell people about hope and change, but you have to have plenty of concrete, pragmatic ideas that bring hope and change to life.” Asked today about that comment, Strickland pointed out that he isn't alone. “I’m not the only one (who) has indicated that we really like what Sen. Obama is saying about the economy and public policy but we would like -- I would like – you know, some of the specifics to be spelled out," Strickland said.
