Related Articles Femoral neck Stress Fracture in a male runner. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2008 Aug;38(8):1 Authors: Krause DA, Newcomer KL A 37-year-old male, referred to physical therapy by his physician, presented with a recent onset of left anterior hip and groin pain. Radiographs of the pelvis, left hip, and left femur were negative. After 2 weeks of rest and physical therapy, the patient was referred back to his physician for further investigation due to lack of improvement in symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed findings consistent with a Stress Fracture on the inferior (compression) side of the femoral neck. Stress fractures of the femoral neck can be difficult to diagnose, since standard radiographs are typically not diagnostic in the early stages. It is not until the healing phase, approximately 3 weeks after onset, that the Stress fractures may become apparent on standard radiographs. Given the potential for dire outcomes, especially with superior (tension) side Stress fractures, early diagnosis is paramount.J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2008;38(8):517. doi:10.2519/jospt.2008.0408. Related Articles Stress Fracture of the femoral neck as a complication of revision arthroplasty of the knee: a case report. Acta Orthop Belg. 2008 Jun;74(3):418-20 Authors: Atalar H, Aytekin MN, Gunay C, Yavuz OY Stress Fracture of the femoral neck is a rare complication of total knee arthroplasty. We report a case of femoral neck Fracture following revision arthroplasty of the ipsilateral knee. Contributing factors may have been the patient's osteoporosis and a period of immobilisation before the revision arthroplasty. The patient was treated successfully with hemiarthroplasty of the hip. In patients who have undergone total knee arthroplasty, complaints of groin pain that radiates to the involved knee should alert to the possibility of a Stress Fracture of the femoral neck. don't know if this will help but I've experienced a similliar tightness in the calf and no amount of time off seemed to heal it , I finally went to our medical trainer and he had me do an exercise that seemed to clear it up almost instantly.I don't know what the exercise is called but it involved me putting my toes on the bottom of a wall with your heal on the ground and then pushing forward as to strech your calf , might be worth a try. ... I'm urging all Democrats to split their vote and cast ballots for Obama-Palin. (Yes, I know Biden takes the train to work. Big whoop. If he were really a man of the people, he'd go coach instead of taking the Metroliner.) I can't help it, I'm obsessed with the Palin family. It's not just Sarah the Barracuda's performance as a point guard on Wasilla High's basketball team. (She played in the state championships with a Stress Fracture.) It's not just her crowning as Miss Wasilla. (How corrupt is Alaska? Her predecessor as Miss Wasilla was Ted Stevens.) It's not just her unlikely rise to the Governor's mansion in Juneau, fighting corruption on both sides of the aisle. (I don't care when or if she ever opposed The Bridge to Nowhere. It was the best line in her speech last week.) It's the whole package, by which I mean her family. These people play hard -- and they aren't afraid of the penalty box. Wednesday's New York Times profiles the bad-ass "First Dude" of Alaska, Todd Palin. The studly steelworker and fisherman is a champion snowmobiler and four-time winner of the 2,000-mile long Iron Dog competition. As the Times reports, "he drove the last 400 miles of this year's race with a broken arm after he was thrown 70 feet from his machine in a crash." And he still finished fourth!! Related Articles Femoral neck Fracture in a military trainee. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2008 Sep;38(9):578 Authors: Blake CG, Ross MD The patient was a 22-year-old male with progressively worsening left hip pain for the past 5 days. He had been evaluated by a physician and diagnosed with an inguinal hernia and an adductor strain. Radiographs were not ordered, but he was given crutches due to an antalgic gait. At his initial physical therapy evaluation, 5 days after onset of pain, the patient was unable to bear weight on his left lower extremity. Based on the patient's history and physical examination, the physical therapist was concerned about the possibility of a hip Fracture. Pelvic anterior-posterior and lateral frog leg radiographs were ordered, and the radiologist's report was significant for a displaced left femoral neck Fracture. The patient was referred to an orthopaedic surgeon and underwent open reduction internal fixation on his left hip the next day. In this case, despite the recent history of pain and the insensitivity of radiographs to the early changes associated with a Stress Fracture, the Fracture was visible on radiographs and it did not require further imaging.J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2008;38(9):578-578. doi:10.2519/jospt.2008.0409.
