This paper revisits the experiences with the use of formal methods in the development of the control System for the Maeslant Kering . The Maeslant Kering is the movable barrier which has to protect Rotterdam from floodings while, at almost the same time, not restricting shipping traffic to the port of Rotterdam. The control System, called BOS, completely autonomously decides about closing and opening of the barrier and, when necessary, also performs these tasks without human intervention. BOS is a safety-critical software System of the highest Safety Integrity Level according to the IEC 61508 standard. One of the reliability increasing techniques used during its development is formal methods . This paper revisits the earlier published experiences with the project after the System is in operation for ten years and has performed its first autonomous barrier operation on November 11 th , 2007. A tropical depression strengthened into Tropical Storm Cristobal this afternoon off the Carolinas coast, and forecasters said the System could intensify further this weekend. It is the first tropical Storm or hurricane to affect the U.S. coast this season. A tropical Storm warning is posted from near Charleston northward to the Virginia-North Carolina border. So far, the Storm's heaviest rain has fallen in the corridor from Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach south to Calabash. It appears as if Cristobal's only impact on the Charlotte metro region will come this afternoon, with the possibility that a few showers and maybe a thunderstorm from the tropical Storm's feeder bands might reach the east side of the city. At mid-afternoon, a few showers from Cristobal had reached Union and Anson counties, east of Charlotte. The biggest threat on the coast from Tropical Storm Cristobal will be the chance of flash flooding, because the Storm has been sending bands of very heavy rain into southeastern North Carolina today. The Storm's impact has been much less to the south, and less than a quarter-inch of rain has been reported so far at Myrtle Beach. At 2 p.m., the center of Cristobal was about 90 miles east of Charleston. The System was moving northeast about 9 mph and is expected to remain just off the Carolinas coast today and Sunday.
