Jenny Sanford’s forgiveness is politically important to South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, some lawmakers say, because it helps cast the governor as a wayward husband working to save his marriage. That's in contrast to the Mark Sanford who on Tuesday called his Argentine lover his soul mate. Jenny Sanford did not say the couple would remain married, however. ...

There are a few huge UFC fights coming our way in the next 5 weeks, including three title fights - in the heavyweight, welterweight and lightweight divisions. But it's interesting to consider that while Florian - Penn is more than a month away, and Bisping - Henderson is an undercard fight on UFC 100, both of those fights - not to mention Lesnar - Mir - have been the subject of more "chatter" in the MMA blogosphere and forums recently than another fight which is a week away and as big or bigger than any of them: Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves . GSP is by all accounts one of the top five pound for pound fighters in the game.  He arguably hasn't even peaked yet as a fighter, yet he's already in the conversation for the most dominant welterweight in UFC history.  He is coming off of his biggest victory - a four-round annihilation of fellow P4P contender BJ Penn - and is 11-1 in the past four and a half years.  And in one week, he's facing arguably his biggest challenge in Thiago "Pitbull" Alves.  Yet for the relative press this bout is receiving, you would think GSP and Alves were an undercard gatekeeper fight. The reason why is not incomprehensible.  The other big fights all have subplot drama and a fair amount of smack talk to hype them.  Florian-Penn has the intrigue of the clear #1 contender fighting the champ; speculation regarding how Penn will recover from the mauling he took from GSP; allegations that Florian tipped Penn ...

It's probably a hangover from watching too many Hollywood movies. but when I think of Eastern Europe I can't help seeing in my mind's eye a dark and mysterious landscape. Gloomy forests climbing the sides of sharp mountains suddenly give way to deep lakes under whose surface lie mysteries better left undisturbed. It's hard to imagine the sun ever shining in this environment, let alone it ever being daytime, as if it exists in a state of permanent twilight. It's in woods like these you'll find the gingerbread cottage of "Hansel and Gretel", or perhaps chance upon a girl in a red cloak making her way to her grandmother's house. However, in spite of the darkness, there's also a haunting beauty which can take your breath away in the same way that plunging into an icy mountain stream will leave you gasping for air and in pleasure at the same time. Yet it's a beauty that seems tinged with sorrow, like a heartbreaking poem or song. Perhaps it's an overly romantic view of something I know very little about, but it's also based on knowing some of the history of the region and the hardships faced by a great many of those who have lived there. Subsistence farms carved out of available land, continual invasions by one army or another, and the twentieth century's contribution to horror - ethnic cleansing after the fall of Yugoslavia and the death camps of WWll. A new release by vocalist Lily Storm , If I Had A Key To The Dawn on her own Songbat Reco ...
