Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Steve Eminger from the Washington Capitals on Friday during the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The Capitals got Philadelphia's first-round pick (29th overall) and used it to select defenseman John Carlson. In addition, Washington sent a pick in the third round, which will take place on Saturday, to Philadelphia. Eminger has spent five season in the NHL, all with Washington, and has posted six goals and 37 assists in 212 games. He only appeared in 20 games last season and was a healthy scratch for many of the contests. Is it just me or does anybody else think this as well? We have plenty of cap room in one of the biggest Free Agent pools in a long time. players like -Joe Sackic -Teemu Sellanne -Peter Foreseberg -Teppo Numminen -Matts Sundin are all still in the FA pool. Now that Steve Eminger and Matt Cooke are gone we need some replcement players. I think Teppo Numminen would be a great combo with Mike Green. and Teemu Sellanne, well hes just Teemu Sellanne. Either way, i was very dissapointed that the capitals didnt go after some of the big names in this years free agency. What does every body else think? ... Phils Can anyone remember the last series the Phils took from a team? Me neither. Only the Mets have a .500 record in their last 10 games in the NL East, so the Phils have been very fortunate that no other team has been able to take the bull by the horns in their division. The Phils now must stop screwing around, as they enter a portion of their schedule heavy with divisional opponents, starting tomorrow in Atlanta for 3 games and back home against the Mets for 4 games. If the Phils continue to flounder through this next week, I would be shocked if a trade, even a minor one involving lesser known players, weren't made if for no other reason than to shake things up a bit. Flyers The Flyers signed Steve Eminger, obtained in a trade on draft day, to a 1 year deal . The leash for Eminger appears to be a short one. At least we won't have to wait long to see if Holmgren pissed away a first round pick or not. Other Spent the weekend with friends in Washington DC; had fun, but it gets oppressively hot there. I have no idea how people can stand going outside there at times, let along decide to take a jog around the mall. Tried to go to the O's-Nats game on Saturday night, but it was inexplicably sold out. Also - apparently - despite careers, age, marriage, children, and mortgages, beer pong was still alot of fun. ... Source: flyerflies.com --- 62 days ago
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers signed defenseman Steve Eminger to a one-year contract Sunday. Eminger was acquired by Philadelphia along with a 2008 third-round pick from the Washington Capitals on June 20 for a first-round pick in the 2008 draft. "Steve is a young two-way defenseman that will fit in nicely with our group," said Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. The 24-year-old collected only two assists in 20 regular-season games for Washington last season. He added a goal during the Caps' seven-game Eastern conference quarterfinal loss to Philly. "I'm happy to get the deal worked out and excited about being part of the organization," Eminger said. "I can't wait for the start of the season to get things going." A former first-round pick of the Caps (12th overall) in 2002, Eminger has posted six goals and 43 points in 212 career games over parts of five years, all with Washington. The signing is the latest in a spate of moves the club has undertaken to add depth to the defensive corps, with the health of Derian Hatcher and Mike Rathje in question, along with the expected departure of unrestricted free agent backliner Jason Smith. Okay, hilarious. After the initial Ice Girls, I mean "Spirit Squad" announcement (which, for the record, talked about half shirts nd skirts/shorts and only women), apparently the internet blew up. Ted wrote in his blog (I would link but I'm in the wrong browser and too lazy to switch) that the Spirit Squad isn't Ice Girls, but it's the same thing as the former Entertainment Crew or whatever they were called. Interesting theory. But I call...bull. If it was the "Entertainment Crew" it wouldn't be just women, and they wouldn't be auditioning in "form fitting tops" and toga pants, and there wouldn't be physical appearance requirements. Now, of course, the notice has been changed so TECHNICALLY it's not just women any more, and they've changed it to long sleeves and long pants. Basically, though, Ted and the Capitals had an idea, and it backfired, and now he/they are pretending it was this way all along. I find it oddly amusing. Oh, and I thought of a new promotion for them, well, depending on how the scheulding works out. Called the Gone But Not Forgotten Pack. Including games against Philadelphia (Steve Eminger), New Jersey (Zubrus), Tampa Bay (Halpern and Kolzig), and mabye (though it won't happen with the schedules, but in theory) Vancouver (Matt Pettinger) and, of course, Anaheim. If they need a sixth, throw in the Islanders (Brendan Witt) for good measure. ... Find more results for Steve Eminger on RSSMicro.com |
