"Have you ever gone all the way with a tree?" . . . just one of several hard-hitting, inappropriate and consistently hilarious questions Stephen Colbert throws at Huffington Post Green's star blogger and Sierra Club executive director, Carl Pope . Colbert aired an interview with Pope this past Monday night, during his sidesplitting fake-news show, " The Colbert Report. " Eager to "expose" environmental lobbyists or what Colbert calls, "The Fightin Treehuggers," Colbert chides Pope for flying to the interview via airplane, not "spotted owl." Pope responds cool, calm and collected . . . "Nobody who is human and lives in an industrial society doesn't leave a footprint on the Earth. But you can decide whether your footprint is going to be a small manageable one or a big gross one." The interview continues as Pope describes George Bush as, "the most horrendous president in American history." Funny, Pope echoes this sentiment in his most recent blog post, " It's Official -- Bush Has Ruined the Market Value of the Whole Country! " My favorite moment ensues when Colbert sheepishly interrupts Pope's talking point on oxygen to spray himself--for at least 2.5 minutes--with toxic aerosol hairspray and air freshener--hilarious! Though no doubt dizzy from asphyxiation, Pope weathers the noxious prank with poise and purpose, smiling just slightly while playing along. The interview is simply great, but I'll keep quiet so not to ruin the funniest ... Source: www.justusboys.com --- 36 minutes ago

COMEDIAN COVERS STORY, GIVES SANFORD UNDUE CREDIT Comedian Stephen Colbert last night covered The Palmetto Scoop’s story about the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s attempted taxpayer-funded ad campaign targeting gay tourists. On The Colbert Report , the South Carolina native told millions of viewers that he was “flaming… flaming mad” over the incident. “Sure, South Carolina could lose a few tourism bucks over this,” Colbert said. “But it is worth it to protect our masculinity because South Carolina is so not gay. If anything, it’s not so gay. South Carolina is a state where big strapping straight men reenact Civil War battles and then shower together for historical accuracy.” Colbert gave kudos to Gov. Mark Sanford, praising him for having “the courage to have the campaign pulled.” The problem is, new information shows that — predictably — the “low level” employee who resigned over the incident may have been a scapegoat and that certain higher-up officials knew about the campaign. In fact, I’m currently in the process of chasing down reports of a full-blown cover-up by PRT and possibly the governor’s office. That information, coupled with the results of Freedom of Information Act requests submitted by The Palmetto Scoop when the story broke, will likely paint a very sinister picture about what exactly happened. ... White man Michael Tunison (the same white man fired by the Washington Post for having an outside blog —racism in action?) has written a column for TheRoot.com. Who cares? White people like us who control the media, that's who! That's because Tunison's point is that most young whites today have friends of different races and would hate to be called racist, which is true but not that revelatory. The real reason we're interested is that they've illustrated the piece with a photo of Stephen Colbert and his " black friend Alan ," played by our close personal friend Jordan Carlos! We emailed with him a couple times, we feel like we know him! I guess having a multicultural cast of friends comes naturally to young whites like us. Actually, we just felt the need to point this out: Tunison's piece is called "Racist: The N-Word for White People." That should be " Nilla ." We've been over this . [ The Root ] ...
