A large element of performing well in golf is knowing the terrain, knowing your course. Ipswich golf co-coach Doug Woodworth (he is again sharing the bill with Steve Lamson) said that the team will lose what is usually a great home course advantage. Ipswich Country Club will close over the first week of October to redo their greens. Tower Hill Country Club has given the nod for the team to face Pentucket (Oct. 1) and North Andover (Oct. 8). All their other October matches (except for an Oct. 2 match still scheduled for I.C.C., but which may be altered later) are on the road. In fact, from Sept. 23 onward to the end, the team may not see the Ipswich Country Club fairways, due to the above scenario and a run of eight road games, including four in a row to end the season. That doesn’t include the Oct. 16 Cape Ann League Open at Far Corners Golf Club in Boxford, or the State Tournament, also away. The team has been trying to make up for this scheduling issue as best they can. “We have put a lot of work in the last two weeks. We have been at the course for seven rounds and been at the driving range five times,” Woodworth said. Depth, as it is for so many teams, is the key this year.
