After listening to Alan Greenspan on CNBC today State the U.S. is "nowhere near the bottom" of the housing slump, we could only wonder if Mr. Greenspan is a regular reader of this column. Even more interesting than Mr. Greenspan's musings was Fidelity Investments' Magellan Fund increasing their investment in AIG. Onlookers would probably assume that Magellan Fund manager Harry Larige is merely "doubling down" after watching his $475 million investment in AIG get crushed by 27% over the last month. Many Wall Street insiders are speculating that AIG will follow Merrill's recent example and sell their CDOs for $0.22 on the dollar giving the company some much needed capital while hoping investors reward them for dumping thier debt as Merrill was a few days ago. While Mr. Larige is no Peter Lynch, his gutsy move could save his initial investment. While we won't touch AIG as long as Robert Willlumstad is in charge, Mr. Lainge could be a smarter man for ignoring us. Holland State Park will be hosting a “GO-Get Outdoors” powerlifting event on Saturday, Aug. 16. It is being sponsored by the American Drug-Free Powerlifting Federation.  The event is a push/pull contest that will include awards for bench press, deadlift and iron man competitions.  The event will be held near the Lake Michigan bathhouse, and will start at 8:15 a.m. with the weigh-in. State Parks is working with three conservation groups to finalize a series of land acquisitions that would add about 5,500 acres to Montaña de Oro State Park and allow the construction of a 20-mile segment of the California Coastal Trail, linking Los Osos with Avila Beach. The additions would come in the form of three large parcels and 10 smaller ones scattered throughout the Irish Hills, a rugged mountain range west of San Luis Obispo.
