August 8, 2008 may someday be remembered as the first day of the post-American era. Or it could be remembered as the Sputnik moment when the American people realized just how far America has fallen due to the monumental mismanagement by America's leaders over the past eight years and decided it was time for America to get its act together. And there was also no mistaking the symbolism of the world seeing President Bush, the first US president in history to attend an Olympic opening ceremony abroad, waving cheerfully from his spot in the bleachers as self-proclaimed sports fan-in-chief while Chinese President Hu Jintao sat behind what looked more like the throne of the emperor of the Middle Kingdom.
