Nuun does work great for what it is designed as an electrolyte replacement which is only part of what a Sports drink is designed to do. The primary function of a Sports/energy drink is to promote hydration and help supply what is needed in the way of energy. Simple sugars while they do supply a carbohydrate source it is not the prefered choice. The more complex carbs such as Maltodexrin are the prefered as they will supply energy for a longer period and are also less likely to cause gastric distress. If you can find one with protein in it (a low ratio of protein to carb) you may be able to tolerate it easier as a diabetic. If you are looking for your Sports drink to be an energy source carbs are part of the package but choosing your drink wisely will help in the long run. Another thing to consider is the length and the intensity of your rides. In most cases if it is just the weekend club ride of 25-30 miles plain water or a light mix of Crystal Light is adequate as all you are worrying about is hydration. High intensity and endurance events are another story and the Sports/energy drink is the best and quickest way to not only get energy in quickly but also electrolytes that have been depleted. I do speak from experience of having to avoid simple sugars as I became an endurance cyclist after having Gastric Bypass surgery in march 2001. I lost 175 lbs but with the changes in my digestive system simple sugars were a problem. It took me fin ... Source: www.marketwire.com --- 7 days ago

Alcoholic Drinks have been forbidden on Belmont University's campus since at least 1951. The small Christian school in Nashville has decided to make an exception to the rule when it hosts a presidential debate Tuesday. A private school with a self-described "strong commitment to providing a Christian community of learning and service," Belmont is allowing alcohol to be served at a hospitality tent for the news media - one of several substantial changes the college made to land the big event. Universities that vied to host the debates had to be willing to pay $1.35 million to cover production expenses, then millions more to erect facilities, spruce up campus grounds and shuffle Sports events. Some also canceled or rescheduled classes to enhance security and debate setup. The payback: instant international attention. The debates also help with a university's mission by offering opportunities for students and the community to learn more about politics and election issues. School leaders say the sacrifices and concessions are worth it. "It's going to generate huge numbers of conversations among students and faculty," said John Geer, a Vanderbilt University political science professor who's written extensively on presidential elections. ... Q. How did you get into Sports commentating? A. When I was a child my parents couldn't stop me doing impressions of David Coleman, who was a BBC analyst, and Bill McClaren, who was known as 'the voice of rugby'. I still do them after a few Drinks! I studied Media at Coleraine University and played a lot of sport. Joy Williams was my shining light in the BBC when I started and she was the one who told me I had to make up my mind whether I wanted to play rugby on a Saturday or report, but I couldn't do both. However one Saturday I proved her wrong! I was very naughty, I had been sent by the BBC to cover CIYMS (who I played for) against Ballymena. I was there as a reporter and I played anyway but still did my half time report and after the game I went into the BBC to present the Sports programme with my shirt and tie on, the viewers didn't see my rugby shorts underneath the desk! After many years of it, I am back working for Sky Sports which is great because they have the highest production values in the world. ... Source: www.globalbx.com --- 42 days ago
