We’ve posted probably a half-dozen of Bernard Derriman’s Big Green Rabbit shorts, but none as elaborate as Spider Monkey. This short, animated entirely in Toon Boom, provides a great example of pose-to-pose animation - and a highly entertaining one at that. Derriman injects so much personality and playfulness into his shorts, it’s no [...] ...

The iPhone 3G is here. With it comes Apple ’s much anticipated application store on iTunes, as well, bringing free and pay applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch — including games. Anyone who is at all familliar with the Internet in its current iteration knows it's rife with neuron-depleted Internet commenters that range from the obsessive compulsive, to the grammatically challenged, to indifferent chain-yankers to the downright mentally challenged. Sometimes, there are commenters who manifest symptoms of all the above. By and large, most Internet commenters should be, and are, mostly ignored. Nick Coleman columns in the Star-Tribune, for a brief while about a month or so ago, featured a comment box that ran wild with commenters either fawning over Nick's latest attempt at a point, or those calling out Nick for the intellectual and logical fraud he's always been. In short, I thought my work here was finally done, at least as far as ripping on Nick Coleman columns went anyway. Why fisk something that's being ripped on by dozens or hundreds of people AT THE SOURCE, after all? Well, as far as I can tell, the Strib has halted commentary on their columns, and it's not hard to imagine Nick howling like a Spider Monkey and getting his way on this, probably making the claim that Internet commenters on his columns only serve to sully his craft, such as it is. But, whilst the Strib has deemed Internet comments on much of its content taboo, for whatever reason, Nick has apparently decided that Internet commenters on other newspaper Web sites are somehow fair game when it comes to making... ...

With the price of gas and the uncertain economy, this seems to be the year of the staycation. If you do have to stay at home this summer, you can experience a wealth of treasures here in the Bluegrass State, including a town that sprang from a meteor crash and the commonwealth's own version of the Holy Land. I left my heart in Possum Trot (or maybe Monkey's Eyebrow) Kentucky is known throughout the world for its Thoroughbreds, and its state slogan, Unbridled Spirit, says it all. However, the commonwealth did not ignore some of the less majestic members of the animal kingdom when it came to naming its towns. Visitors can stop off in Rabbit Hash in Northern Kentucky, Monkey's Eyebrow in Western Kentucky, Beaver Bottom in the eastern part of the state, and Elkton in the far southern part of the state near the Tennessee line, which is not to be confused with Elkhorn City on the Virginia line. There is a Butterfly and a Bug (even a Bugtussle.) How about a stopover in Coon City or Possum Trot? Some Kentucky town names might even give you the shivers Mousie, Rattlesnake and Spider. And for those who insist on the noble equine, there's always Horse Cave.(If you want to know more about Kentucky communities with funny names, check our archives at www.kentucky.com to read stories from our occasional Project Dateline series by features writer Amy Wilson.) ...

Filed under: Fandom , Contests , Insert Caption Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game that's great to play while you're traveling ... with pants ... for a second time! Last time we met in this glorious space, we asked you to bring along some funny to compliment an image from the film Step Brothers -- and you gave us Spider Monkey attacks, Mountain Dew jokes and screaming peas. Right on! 1. "I told you not to tease those Spider monkeys, they'll come at you ... well, like Spider monkeys." -- Matt H. 2. "That's what happens when you actually try to do the "Dew." -- Kathi F. 3. "You're right, I can hear the little peas screaming as they're thawing out. That's just weird." -- P.J. See full image and all captions This week, we're back again with our four favorite friends and the extremely special pair of jeans that works its way from one girl to the next over the course of one busy summer. You know what they say: Some friends just fit together. (And how come my jeans never seem to fit?) Yup, it's The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (in theaters August 6), and the authors behind our three favorite captions will travel away with one Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 tank top, one BeDazzler stud-setting tool with assorted studs and crystals, one The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 soundtrack, one (1) The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 mini tote, one The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 charm key ch ...

The sea lions ate frozen fish for lunch, and the tigers shared their pool with a block of ice. Inflatable Christmas decorations bobbed in the breeze as kids cut white paper into snowflakes and ate cookies decorated like snowmen. Despite the winter festivities going on in Glen Oak Park on Sunday afternoon, it's not the holiday season just yet. 'It's our second annual ‘Winter in Summer' celebration to keep the animals cool,' said Dawn Petefish, event coordinator at the Peoria Zoo. 'Today it's all about ice.' As part of the Behavioral Enrichment and Enhancement Program, zookeepers stimulate animals every day through different foods and entertainment. Some days the animals listen to radios or watch TV or eat a special snack they haven't had before. The 'Winter in Summer' event focuses on icier stimulants. Some of the zoo's underwater animals cooled off with ice cubes dumped in their pools, and some of the land animals ran through sprinklers or ate Popsicles. 'It keeps them cool and entertained at the same time,' Petefish said. 'Every day we like to do something outside their normal routines to keep them active.' The five black-handed Spider monkeys quickly ate their usual afternoon Monkey chow but took some time warming up to their frozen sticks of nectarine juice. 'If we give them a bowl of chopped-up apples, they will eat it immediately,' Petefish said. 'But when we come up with creative ways to disguise their food or make them wor ...
