Three-time world champion Oscar Freire won the 11th stage of the Spanish Vuelta on Wednesday, with Egoi Martinez retaining the overall lead for the third straight day. The 178-kilometer (110.6-mile) leg from Calaharra to Burgos suited the sprinters as Rabobank's Freire edged fellow specialist Tom Boonen of Belgium and Argentina's Juan Jose Haedo. The Spaniard finished in 4 hours, 19 minutes, 28 seconds. QuickStep's Boonen and Haedo, of Team CSC, finished in the same time along with German sprint specialist Erik Zabel of Team Milram in fourth place. Martinez, a Spaniard who rides for Euskaltel-Euskadi, kept his 11-second lead in the standings over American Rider Levi Leipheimer of Astana. Alberto Contador, the 2007 Tour de France winner, is third - 32 seconds behind Martinez. The season's third major race - after the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia - finishes in Madrid on Sept. 21. With increasing wind peaking at around 20 knots at 3 pm on the final day the double elimination of the Kiteboarding Worldcup in Parnaiba (Piaui/Brazil) carried on with the heat Evandro Da Silva (Brazil) vs Sebastien Garat (France) with the better end for Da Silva. Mike Blomvall (Sweden) outplayed Silvio Villarim (Brazil). Cesar Portas succumbed to Alvaro Onieva in the Spanish duel. Now there were only 8 riders left for the showdown battle for the kiteboarding crown in Parnaiba: Evandro da Silva continued his impressive climb up the ladder of the double elimination all the way from the bottom with a win over Ariel Corniel (Dominican Republic) while Mike Blomvall (Sweden) conquered Alvaro Onieva. Evandro da Silva seemed unstoppable as he outplayed Mike Blomvall, Tomas Teixeira , and even world tour title contender and winner of 4 tourstops this season Kevin Langeree (Netherlands). The local crowd freaked out when da Silva attacked 4 times and reigning world champion Aaron Hadlow . But a rested Hadlow managed to hold of the fatiguing Brazilian Rider who had to win 9 heats in a row to make it into the final. Hadlow now has a more comfortable lead in the tour standings but Langeree will give his best to win the last stop and grap the tour title this year.
